Skoda is on a roll with launches and announcements these days, especially vehicles with raised stances. This time, the Czech automaker has released the first teaser images of the Kodiaq GT. Oh yes, it gets the GT moniker. The Kodiaq GT is like the super-sexy, alter-ego version of the Kodiaq, but there’s a catch; the SUV is exclusive to China only.

The Kodiaq GT is Unmistakably Skoda

The Kodiaq GT gets a split 12-slat front grille and a mesh grille right under it. The aggressive-looking headlamps and LED daytime running lights are housed in the same unit, while the fog lamps are placed close to the headlamps; much higher than the usual placement. It also comes with a sloping roofline, which gives the Kodiaq GT a sporty look but will affect the headroom at the rear. A sunroof is also present. Apart from a few touches, the Kodiaq GT looks very much similar to the standard Kodiaq.

As for the interiors, the most visible difference is the pair of sporty seats that are on offer. Apart from this, everything else looks similar; however, the Kodiaq GT might get more customization options.

Under the hood, it will be offered with a single 2.0-liter TSI turbo engine in two different states of tune - one with 186 horses and the other with 200 ponies. Power will be sent to the front wheel as standard, but an optional all-wheel-drive system will also be available. All the models will be paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Conclusion

The Kodiaq GT will most probably debut next month at the 2018 Chengdu Auto Show. The other three cars that sell there are the Koraq, standard Kodiaq, and the Kamiq, which is again exclusive to China. Skoda explains that this second exclusive SUV for China shows the company’s commitment to the local market. Sales are expected to begin by the end of this year.
