The Toyota FT-1 "Vision GT" is headed to the virtual world of Gran Turismo 6. It’s only appropriate considering that the concept was created specifically for the purpose of celebrating Gran Turismo’s->ke3689 15th anniversary. Still, it’s pretty cool that we now have a chance to drive the FT-1 Vision GT, albeit as a video game car.

The high-powered concept is already available for download so you can expect Gran Turismo 6 fans to stumble amongst themselves to get the vehicle into their garages as quick as possible. Yes, I speak from experience, although my slow Internet connection turned the whole download experience into an exercise in patience.

Still, seeing the FT-1 Vision GT Concept and controlling it was a real treat, even for a discerning and admittedly high-brow GT6 player like me. It’s also a nice followup to the earlier FT-1 Concept that became downloadable in the game back in January 2014.

Now that there are two of these concepts available on Gran Turismo 6, I can't imagine fans of Toyota->ke88 playing with any other car than this one. Again, I say all of this through experience and calloused fingers.

Why It Matters

Has there ever been a time when concept cars have become as accessible to drive as production models? Sure, it's not exactly the real thing we're driving, but it's as close as we can come to it without forking over some bills.

Those who play GT6 are going to be busy this weekend, that much I can tell you. And to those who don't have the game, well, you guys don't know what you're missing.

If Toyota was going to improve upon the already radical FT-1 Concept, Calty Design Research in Newport Beach, California, had to put on their genius hats to pull it off.

Incredibly, that's precisely what designers at Calty did with the unveiling of the FT-1 Vision GT Concept. For me to say that the FT-1 is breathtaking would do it a massive injustice.

The Graphite finish on the concept makes it stand out in ways the original FT-1 Concept couldn't even do. That's saying a whole lot considering the first one turned designers at Calty Design Research into pseudo-celebrities of some sort. The additional aerodynamic components, particularly the massive rear wing, showcases its true race car potential.

Toyota has never mentioned any performance specs for either the FT-1 or the FT-1 Vision GT, which is the only thing disappointing about the cars. Still, the FT-1 GT Concept looks completely bonkers.

It's only right that we finally get to play it in Gran Turismo 6.
