After last year Toyota won the Tokachi 24 race with its Supra Hybrid, now the Japanese manufacturer is planning a return in the famous Le Mans 24h endurance race, with a hybrid race car.

According to Toyota's Kazuo Okamoto, Member of the Board since 2005, the manufacturer’s goal is to step higher into the endurance races and to introduce hybrid systems in sports cars, which will make them lighter and more efficient.

Although Toyota has not yet announced its comeback to Le Mans, the Japanese manufacturer might choose to return next year, Automotive News says.

“We want to enter when we are confident of victory” said Okamoto confident in the new hybrid race car. The only question remains how will the new car look like. Sources confirm that the new hybrid will be based on the Lexus LF-A or Toyota FT-HS, known as the Supra succesor.
