In a track-day event we are drooling over, AutoCar pitted three of the most well-renowned supercars->ke177 against each other and against the clock in a competition for king. Set along the winding track of Castle Combe, the three cars battle it out for supremacy.

Steve Sutcliffe is our host and carefully walks us through the three cars one at a time, going back and forth between them like a chef careful to test each masterfully prepared dish. And while we’re not going to spoil the outcome, each car shows its strength and weakness.

Without giving anything away, the Porsche 911 GT3 deserves a medal solely on value. It competes very well with the McLaren and Ferrari costing literally twice as much. The McLaren->ke284 seems to be Sutcliffe’s favorite driving car and the Ferrari->ke252 comes across as one of the best vehicles to ever leave Maranello.

Porsche 911 GT3

The Porsche 911 GT3 is a ridiculous car. Its rear-mounted engine sits over the drive wheels, giving it the traction it needs for fast launches. Power comes from a naturally aspirated, 3.8-liter, flat-six-cylinder cranking out an outrageous 475 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch unit. Zero to 60 happens in just 3.3 seconds on its way to a 195-mph top speed. Pricing for the Porsche 911 GT3 starts at $130,400

Ferrari 458 Speciale

The Ferrari 458 Speciale is quite literally a special car. Its mid-mounted, 4.5-liter V-8 cranks out an additional 34 horsepower, totaling 596 ponies. Torque remains the same as the standard (if you can call it that) 458 at 398 pound-feet. Like the Porsche, the 458 Speciale’s engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch trans that helps the car rocket to 60 in a stellar three seconds. Pricing for the 458 Speciale starts at $298,000.

McLaren 650S

The McLaren 650S is all-new for 2015 and boy is it a looker. The clean design and fantastic interior is surpassed only by its tenacious powerplant. Displacing only 3.8 liters, the twin-turbo V-8 kicks out an immense 640 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Zero to 60 happens in just three seconds and its top speed is listed at 207 mph. A supercar no doubt. The starting price begins at $265,500.
