Volkswagen announced that the cabriolet version of the successful Golf will make a comeback in 2010, but it won't be built by Karmann. The first version remained in production for 14 years without major changes, and the second-generation cabrio Golf was discontinued in 2002 and never replaced.

The open-air Golf will be derived from the three-door hatch, so it'll get a stubby rear end, relatively small boot and packaging very close to the current A3 cabrio's.

Golf cabrio will be offered with a wide range of engines including: 1.4 TSI, 120bhp, 1.4 TSI, 150hp, 2.0 TSI, 200bhp, 1.6 TDI, 105bhp, 2.0 TDI, 140bhp, 2.0 TDI, 170bhp. All engine will be mated to the DSG dual-clutch transmission which has either six or seven forward ratios.

Prices will start at €25,000 in its most basic form.
