We have to hand it to these design students lately. They have taken the automotive bull by the horns and turned out some pretty cool concepts. Proof is in the 2010 Lamborghini Cnossus Student Design Concept and, now, the Volkswagen Kai-Nalu. The Kai-Nalu is the work of a young designer by the name of Josep Ferriol in Spain. This design was part of his graduation thesis. Kai-Nalu represents the Volkswagen of the future and features a unique concept composed of two distinctly different elements: the waves of the Mediterranean sea and the rocks of the seaside.

The flowing glass upper section mimic the sea and the angular bodywork underneath represents the rocks of the coastline. The concept sits on wheels inspired by bicycle wheels. Yeah, the bicycle analogy threw us off too.

Volkswagen Kai-Nalu was designed to use an electric powertrain composed from two separate engines: one is mounted up front and the other at the rear.

The concept is a little "out there" in terms of appearance, but the idea behind it is illustrated clearly through the use of this particular design. The student behind this masterpiece is a true artist and we see a bright future ahead of him. He may not be able to get everyone on board with this concept, but the people that do approve will probably pay out a pretty good amount for it.
