Due to the automobile industry’s recent slow down certain automakers have to cut budgets wherever possible. For instance Japanese automakers like Nissan and Mitsubishi have chosen to forego the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. However the halls of German auto salon will not be empty when the international motor show opens its doors in September. Audi is expected to bring their new A8 and A5 Sport Back model. Opel will have a new Astra. Mercedes will bring out the E-Class estate and BMW will unveil the X1 and 5 Series GT. However Volkswagen will be stealing the show when they debut 4 new models at the manufacturers home show.

Continued after the jump.

Among the vehicles that VW is planning on bringing to the show are the new Golf R, gone is the 3.2 Liter V6 of the R32 and replaced by a smaller 2.0 Liter turbocharged unit delivering 265 HP. The R version of the Golf will wear an outrageously aggressive body kit on the outside and feature new sport seats and a redesigned instrument cluster on the inside.

For the minicar fans VW is expected to unveil the new Polo with updated styling and a new sporty engine package, which earned the vehicle the nickname “Little Scirocco”. For the everyday man VW will show off the new Golf estate, a 5 door model with extra storage capacity that keeps the classic Golf shape. One of the more interesting debuts planned for VW is their Robust pick-up truck, a real double cab 1 ton pick-up, that should make for a pretty interesting Ford, Chevrolet and Chrysler comparison.

Although the diesel burning BlueSport Concept made its debut in Detroit expect to see an updated version of Volkswagen sport concept.
