New York Auto Show will start the day after tomorrow; so what we will see in there? By now we were used that all the auto shows to bring a long list of hybrid cars, but this is not the case for New York.

Instead of a long list of world debuts for hybrids and other gasoline-saving technologies, the show will concentrate on redesigns of current models, a few doses of high-horsepower V-8s and, of course, some new names and models never seen by the public.

Here are the world debuts: 2009 Acura TSX, 2009 Dodge Challenger, 2009 Hyundai Genesis coupe, 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class, 2009 Nissan Maxima, 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP, 2009 Pontiac Solstice model, 2010 Pontiac G8 sport truck. And concepts: Kia coupe, Scion Hako coupe, Suzuki Kizashi 3 sedan.

ACURA
Acura's redesigned 2009 TSX sedan, debuting in New York, is wider and longer than its predecessor. The second-generation TSX comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 201 hp and 172 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed manual and five-speed automatic will be available. Sales begin this spring.

Honda's first U.S. diesel engine, a V-6 configuration, is expected to debut on the 2010 TSX sedan.

DODGE

Although the 2008 Challenger has yet to go on sale, Dodge will debut the 2009 model line in New York. The display is expected to feature the lowest-priced Challenger, with a 3.6-liter V-6, as well as the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 model. Sales begin this fall.

Last month's Chicago Auto Show featured the 2008 Challenger SRT8, the most expensive and powerful model. That model has a 435-hp, 6.1-liter Hemi V-8. Production of the 2008 is limited to 6,400 SRT8s.

HYUNDAI

The production model based on Hyundai's Genesis coupe concept will be rolled out in New York. The concept was one of the most talked-about cars at last November's Los Angeles auto show, where it was shown. The 2009 Hyundai Genesis coupe will be powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The rear-drive coupe also will be available with a naturally aspirated V-6. Sales begin later this year or early next.

KIA

Kia will show a small coupe concept. Kia sources say it is close to production-ready and will be added to the U.S. lineup.

MERCEDES-BENZ

Three clean Bluetec diesel engines will debut. The R320 crossover and GL320 and ML320 SUVs go on sale this fall as 2009 model clean diesels for sale in all 50 states. The vehicles have a revised version of Mercedes' 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine that also injects urea into the exhaust stream to clean emissions. The engine meets 50-state emissions standards.

Mercedes also will show a mildly refreshed ML SUV for the 2009 model year.

NISSAN

Nissan will show a sleek 2009 Maxima in New York, with recent spy photos suggesting the car has moved into a classic four-door coupe outline. Designers have given the redesigned Maxima's edges additional flare to accentuate its traditional sporty image.

In recent years, the Maxima has done well in sales. But the new Altima has encroached on the Maxima's role as Nissan's largest sedan, and last year's spinoff of an Altima coupe has crept up on the Maxima's appeal to buyers of sporty cars.

The new Maxima also will become Nissan's first crack at the U.S. diesel market. Nissan will provide the model with an optional Renault-built diesel engine starting in 2010.

PONTIAC

The car-based Chevrolet El Camino was a popular, stylish utility vehicle with auto enthusiasts during the 25 years or so it was marketed. The styling of the two-door El Camino shared sheet metal from the B-pillar forward with one of Chevrolet's car models. From the B-pillar back, the El Camino's pickuplike design offered space for hauling a trail bike or go-kart.

General Motors plans to introduce that formula again. This time it is the Pontiac brand, and the stylish pickup will be assembled by GM's Holden subsidiary in Australia. The rear-drive platform is shared with the G8 sedan and the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro.

Just like the El Camino, the Pontiac is a car with a little pickup utility.

One engine will be offered: a 361-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 promising 0-to-60-mph acceleration in 5.4 seconds.

Pontiac still needs to determine a name for the vehicle. The automaker is having a contest, with the name to be announced April 15. Until then, the vehicle will be known as the 2010 G8 sport truck.

Other Pontiac world debuts in New York include a 400-plus-hp 2009 G8 GXP sedan and a new sleek 2009 model for the Solstice line.

SCION

Scion will show the Hako coupe concept in New York. Toyota calls the concept a sporty interpretation of a box shape. It was developed by Tokyo Design Division, which studied global, youth-inspired trends.

SUZUKI

Suzuki will display the Concept Kizashi 3 sedan. Suzuki executives say it suggests both the automaker's future design direction and intent to offer a larger, more upscale sedan. Insiders say the car could arrive next year.
