Infiniti, Nissan's luxury division, is working on a new platform for electric models that will hit the market in 2021. The underpinnings are said to debut in an all-electric model, but will eventually make in every model in the company's lineup except the QX80. According to Automotive News, the SUV will continue to use the body-on-frame platform from the Nissan Armada/Patrol, while everything else will have some sort of electrification from 2021 onward.

The upcoming platform is being designed for both EV and hybrid models, so Infiniti will continue to use gasoline engines. There's no specific info as to which models will make the switch to full electric power, but it's safe to assume that most of the lineup will use hybrid power at first. What we do know is that the hybrid powertrains, branded e-Power by parent company Nissan, will charge their batteries using a combination of energy regeneration and a gasoline engine acting as a generator only.

The e-Power platform will also underpin performance-oriented models but in a different setup. An internal combustion engine and an electric motor will spin the front axle, while the rear wheels will use one or two electric motors. This layout will give the performance hybrid vehicles all-wheel-drive capability.

As for all-electric models, they will offer a maximum output of 400 horsepower and a range of around 300 miles. The first vehicle to use the e-Power platform will be based on the Q Inspiration concept shown at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. The sedan is likely to preview the next-generation Q70 midsize sedan.
