X-Tomi's Rendering of the Mercedes A-Class Coupe Has Us Salivating With Desire

Should Mercedes-Benz build it?

After 21 years on the market, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class finally went beyond the hatchback body style, with the German firm introducing a sedan version at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. Unveiled with a longer wheelbase in China, the A-Class Sedan will soon be launched in Europe and the United States with a regular wheelbase and will be followed by an AMG version. There's little doubt that Mercedes-Benz will further expand the lineup beyond these models, but a new rendering from X-Tomi Design left us craving a two-door coupe version.

Rendered with longer front doors and a sloping roofline, the A-Class Coupe boasts a gorgeous profile. It also looks sportier than the four-door sedan and would look even better with an AMG body kit. The pillarless design and the more angular quarter window also contribute to its sleek look. Luckily, the CLS-inspired cues, and especially the sharp headlamps and taillights, work well with the coupe body style. Definitely a car of the "shut up and take my money!" variety.

But would Mercedes-Benz build such a model? I'd say it's not very likely anytime soon, but I wouldn't rule it out completely. Mercedes has already invented a couple of new niches with the CLS and CLA, both four-door coupe models, so it wouldn't be exactly surprising to see an A-Class Coupe on the road in a few years. But such a model wouldn't start a new trend. Based on its size and body style, it would compete against the BMW 2 Series, a model that's already been available for quite a few years. But, needless to say, the A-Class Coupe would be a sleeker proposition.

Should Mercedes decide to build a coupe, it would open the door for a convertible model too. The German would then have four new models, two in AMG performance spec. Plenty of possibilities here, but let's see if Mercedes takes advantage of them.
