With every NASCAR season, the excitement and thrill rises. To keep up with that, the cars have to be exciting as well. Chevrolet decided to unveil its racecar at a press conference in Las Vegas, so that the Chevy fans that have been eagerly waiting can finally get their fix..

Known as the Chevrolet SS NASCAR, the rear-wheel drive performance racecar will be Chevrolet’s newest entry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning with the 2013 SpeedWeek in Daytona.

Based on the upcoming, limited edition Chevrolet SS performance sedan, the design gives us some insight on what to expect from the performance sedan visually, when it will debut early next year.

The NASCAR Chevrolet SS is the next in a long line of famed nameplates that Chevrolet has brought to NASCAR. It replaces the sturdy Impala, which scored a total 151 wins from 1959-64 and 2007-12.

Exterior and Interior

The exterior, as any NASCAR fan would know, is basically a sheet of metal folded to look like the stock car it's based on. What the brands then do is paint the elements of the car that Chevrolet is campaigning onto that sheet of metal. Voila, the exterior is done.

In the NASCAR Chevrolet SS, the exterior is approached in a similar fashion. Here the elements that will adorn the upcoming SS performance sedan are painted in the race car. It gives us a good idea and a rendering of what to expect, such as the aggressive front bumper and the large headlamps. With these design elements in mind, using our imagination, we believe that the upcoming SS will look aggressive and sporty – pretty much like the Holden Commodore it is based on. How else can it convey the presence of a beast under the hood?

What we shouldn't expect is the interior of the NASCAR. Thanks to NASCAR regulations and weight saving measures, the interior is bare bones. It features a bucket seat, steering wheel and a gear stick and a plethora of switches that we could only guess what each does. That's the luxury offered by a half-a-million-dollar (at least) race car.

Power

The determining factor of any NASCAR is its power. The Chevrolet SS NASCAR doesn't disappoint in that aspect, thanks to the small-block Chevrolet V-8. Chevrolet promises similar performance figures in a restrained, road-going package -- A.K.A. the Chevrolet SS.

With a time gap of 17 years since its last full-blown rear-wheel-drive sedan, Chevrolet also promises the adoption a new rear-wheel-drive architecture, which underpins the big guns like the Chevrolet Camaro->ke248 and Holden’s upcoming VF Commodore->ke1480
