Remember the Chevrolet Avalanche?->ke470 Well this SEMA concept is the closest thing we’ve seen to one since the ‘Lanche drove of into the sunset in 2013. Though this has the same look, this concept is really a standard Silverado->ke1787 with Chevy’s new concept bed system that securely holds cargo away from the elements and prying hands.

The cargo system is completely integrated into the Silverado’s bed. The sidewalls are hollowed out for Avalanche-like storage bins while the majority of the bed area is covered in durable plastic with a large divider splitting up the space. A hard tonneau cover mounts to rails along the top to keep the weather out and the cargo in.

The cargo system is dolled up as well, sporting a pewter base coat with Oxide Gold and Russet accents. The Oxide Gold accents continue onto the GMC Denaili-style 22-inch wheels and front bumper center section for some added detailing. The colors contrast perfectly with the Deepwood Green body color of the Silverado High Country. The designers also swapped the Deepwood Green for the chrome grille, mirror caps, and door handles to keep the monochromatic design intact.

Chevrolet Silverado High Desert Concept in detail

Under this Silverado’s hood lies the 6.2-liter, EcoTec3 V-8 pumping out 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to GM’s new Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power rearward under normal circumstances, or to all four wheels when the driver engages four-wheel-drive.

Of course with this being the SEMA show, Chevy didn’t leave the greasy bits stock. A performance exhaust is bolted to the block, helping it breathe better. Gone are the stock brakes as well, replaced by a concept system from Brembo. The six-piston front calipers squeeze high-performance pads on 16-inch slotted rotors.

Inside the Silverado, the designers included dark wood accents to complement the green, gold, and pewter exterior color. The Silverado High Country’s saddle brown leather seats remain intact as they match the motif to the tee.

Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevy Silverado was completely redesigned for 2014 and came with three all-new engines as well. A V-6 and two V-8s displace the familiar 4.3-liters, 5.3-liters, and 6.2-liters, but each engine shared hardly any parts with its predecessors. Variable valve timing, Active Fuel Management, and direct fuel injection are the three more prevalent attributes of the new engines.

The Silverado comes in three cab configurations, three bed configurations, and more trim levels and option packages than believable. This makes the truck rather versatile, spanning from farm truck to near limo luxury status.

Pricing for the Silverado start at $25,575 and rises well into the $50,000 range.
