Chevrolet->ke199 is no stranger to special editions.->ke2041 It seems like nearly every one of its models can be had with some sort of special option package or unique edition. The tradition continues at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show->ke225 as Chevy debuts the 2016 Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition.

Chevrolet actually debuted a Midnight Edition for the 2016 Colorado back in August of 2015, though it was limited to the LT trim levels. Now customers can choose the Midnight Edition on their Z71-trimmed Colorado->ke1193 – a truck that is built for off-roading.

Like the “standard” Midnight Edition, the Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition comes with blacked-out everything. Save for the headlights, fog lights, and a handful of chrome accents, the truck is black. In keeping with its Z71 trim, the 17-inch, five-spoke wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires for all-terrain traction. The Eaton G80 locking rear differential is standard while 4WD is optional. Tow hooks and skid plates finish off the Z71’s rugged image.

The Z71 Colorado is available with either the 3.6-liter V-6 or the 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel. Both engines are unchanged by addition of the Midnight Edition package, and come mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

What makes the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition special

The Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition combines the best of both the Z71 package and the Midnight Edition. Now truck buyers can opt for “murder-out” either the Colorado LT or Z71 trim levels. Both can be had in either 2WD or 4WD, but each comes with trim-specific items.

For the Colorado Z71 Midnight Edition, the truck is equipped with the Z71 off-road suspension package. This includes Rancho shock absorbers, tow hooks and underbody skid plates made standard, the Eaton G80 automatic locking rear differential, and the Goodyear DuraTrac all-terrain tires. All combined, these features give the Z71 a leg up when tackling dirt, mud, and rocks.

As for the Midnight Edition portion, it boils down to an appearance package. The truck (obviously) only comes in black and features a blacked out grille, bumpers, door handles, mirror caps, and wheels. Even the spray-on bed liner is black. There are hints of chrome, however, including the headlights, fog light accent rings, Z71 logo on the doors, and bow tie emblem accents. Yep, even the Chevy bow ties are black.

Pricing for the Midnight Edition is expected to range between $1,500 and $2,000, on top of the Colorado Z71’s base sticker price of $29,250.
