Dodge->ke28 is now rolling out yet another "Blacktop" edition vehicle, this time it’s the Dodge Durango. Characterized by a more sinister appearance, the Blacktop Package adds features like glossy-black wheels, black exterior badging, body colored fascia panels, and semi-smoked headlights. The 2014 Durango Blacktop will be no exception.

The new accent package will be available on the Durango SXT, Limited, and R/T models and will hit showrooms starting in October 2014. For SXT trim level Durangos, the Blacktop package will add gloss-black 20-inch wheels, a matching gloss-black crosshair grille, grille surround and side mirrors, black headlight bezels and exterior badging, dual rear exhaust with bright tips, and body-colored fascia and moldings where chrome would normally reside. It creates one of the boldest looks on any current SUV->ke145. For the lower-level SXT trim package, checking the Blacktop box will cost an additional $1,590.

Druangos with the Limited trim package get all the same gloss-blak bits as the SXT, plus swanky HID headlights and LED daytime running lights with the Blacktop Package installed. Checking the Blacktop box with the Limited trim costs $1,990, or $400 more than the Blacktop Package on the SXT, mainly because of the HID headlights.

The Durango R/T only gains $295 to its MSRP to upgrade to the Blacktop package and gets gloss-black 20-inch aluminum wheels, gloss-black crosshair grille with matching grille surround and gloss-black badging.

All three trim are available in one of five colors: Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal, or Redline Red.

Both the SXT and Limited trims come powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, which gains five horsepower from the new Blacktop Package's exhaust, while the R/T model uses the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8

Dodge Durango

The 2014 Dodge Durango is an extremely versatile SUV with loads of room for people and cargo. Three rows of seating and plentiful legroom even in the third row means all seven (or optional eight) passengers are comfortable. Even without the Blacktop package, the Durango has a rather aggressive appearance to it, especially with the monochromatic paint scheme.

The Durango comes with either the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. The V-6 lays down some respectable numbers, making 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It also has a very respectable driving range of more than 600 miles and gets up to 25 mpg highway.

The HEMI is the performance engine of the bunch. It makes 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, helping it earn its best-in-class tow rating of 7,400 pounds. (The V-6 is still capable of towing 6,200 pounds.) The HEMI come equipped with cylinder deactivation, helping it conserve fuel and achieve a surprising 23 mpg highway.

Base price for the bottom trim SXT starts at $29,995 without any options. An up-optioned, top-trim Citadel will set you back some $50,000.
