The Dodge Viper is headed to an ignominious ending but in fairness to Dodge, the American automaker is making sure that the Viper is going out with a bang. A slew of special edition models based on the Viper ACR have sold out in record time, proving that the Viper collector market is alive and healthy. Sadly, those special editions were of limited quantity so not everyone got the chance to own one. Fret not though because there’s another way to get a non-standard Viper ACR, one that involves taking the aftermarket route. It just so happens that Geiger Cars has just unveiled its new program for the Viper ACR that comes with a performance upgrade that spikes the 8.4-liter V-10’s engine to 765 horsepower and 679 pound-feet of torque.

The new numbers represent an increase of 120 ponies and 79 pound-feet of torque, enough to give the range-topping Viper some serious road and track capabilities. Imagine what a Geiger-tuned Viper ACR is capable of when the standard model has already set some serious lap times in a number of race tracks. I can only think of the possibilities but for owners of the Viper ACR, they can actually find out for themselves if they avail of Geiger Cars’ tuning program.

Speaking of the program, the engine upgrade isn’t the only thing included in the whole kit. The tuner is also offering what it calls an “Extreme Aero Package,” a set of carbon fiber body kits that were added to help keep Viper ACR owners from losing control of their sports cars. The whole kit can be a bit pricey, especially when you take into account possible shipping costs. But if the need matches up with the desires, then it shouldn’t be a problem adding more juice to the already potent Dodge Viper ACR.

Exterior

One look at the Geiger Cars-tuned Dodge Viper ACR and it’s clear that the German tuner put in some work to give it a comprehensive exterior upgrade. Geiger even calls it the “Extreme Aero Package” and it includes a new front air splitter, twin dive flaps for the front apron, and a rear diffuser. All of these upgrades come on top of the modifications that Dodge itself threw into the car. That includes the massive carbon fiber rear spoiler that conveniently gets some new decals. Rounding out the exterior modifications are a new set of 19-inch forged alloy wheels that come with tire pressure sensors.

Drivetrain

Geiger Cars didn’t try to work any aftermarket wizardry with this program. In fact, the modifications were straightforward and involved ported and polished cylinder heads, pushrods, and 2.215-inch diameter intake valves. A high-lift camshaft was also part of the kit, as were uprated hydraulic lifters, and double valve springs. The German tuner also added new parts into the mix to accommodate the changes that were done to the engine. Exhaust headers top that list and are joined by 200-cell sports catalytic converters and a stainless steel sports exhaust system that cuts down on the back pressure and improves the car’s throaty engine sound. Rounding out the engine modifications is an ECU remap that puts everything together and wraps it up in a neat bow.

The result is an output of 765 horsepower and 679 pound-feet of torque. That represents an increase of 120 horses and 79 pound-feet of torque, enough to cut the range-topping Viper’s performance times. Geiger didn’t elaborate on those times but with a standard Viper ACR capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in around three seconds, this tuned Viper cover the same ground in less than three seconds to go with a top speed that can easily clear 200 mph.

Pricing

If anybody’s interested in Geiger Cars’ conversion for the Dodge Viper ACR, prepare to shell out a juicy amount of money. The tuner has priced the kit itself at €40,775. That’s about $46,250 based on current exchange rates. There is another option, albeit one that’s significantly more expensive. This includes the whole setup, Viper ACR included, and it costs €219,000, or around $248,400.

Competition

Dodge Viper Venom 800 by Hennessey

It’s not technically a program for the range-topping Dodge Viper, but with Hennessey in the mix, it makes for a compelling argument. The American tuner is known for some impressive aftermarket kits and this one is no different. The sole focus of Hennessey in this case is to give the Viper’s 8.4-liter V-10 engine an upgrade for that’s fit for its status. So the tuner did just that by adding a slew of new parts, including an air-to-air intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors, and a supercharger that runs at five psi. Hennessey finished it up by remapping the V-10’s engine management unit, bringing the sports car’s total output to an impressive 808 horsepower and 790 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to propel the Viper from an idle position to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds in addition to hitting a quarter-mile sprint in just 10.5 seconds at 143 mph. No mention was made of any gains in top speed, but with that much power under its belly, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Hennessey-tuned Viper hit 200 mph.

Conclusion

It would seem that a car like the Dodge Viper ACR, as extreme as it is, does not really need a tuning firm to give it more power and performance. I can understand that sentiment, but on the other hand, I know that there are also some owners of the Viper ACR who are looking to squeeze out whatever untapped horses are left in that 8.4-liter V-10 engine. To those people, I say that Geiger Cars is as good a tuner as any to help get the Viper ACR to the levels that they desire. It may be trickier for those in the US to get the kit from the German tuner, but those who are determined enough should be able to find a way.
