It’s only been about six months since we started hearing rumors that FCA was killing off the Viper, but as you probably already know, the rumors are true. In January, FCA boss Sergio Marchionne said there was a “possibility” of its return someday, but there was no timetable. At the time, we assumed it was poor sales that was leading to the Viper's signed and filed death warrant, but it turned out to be FCA’s inability (or lack of interest) in modifying the Viper to support side curtain airbags. Now, as we approach the final model year for the Viper, the Dodge brand is celebrating the car’s 25th anniversary by releasing five money-grabbing, limited-edition models, such as the one you see here – the VoooDoo II Edition ACR.

Tim Juniskis – the Head of Passenger Cars, Dodge, SRT, Chrysler, and Fiat for FCA North America – said, “The Dodge Viper has had a great run, and 25 years after it was first introduced, it leaves the supercar world reaching for the records it continues to set. With more track records than any production car in the world, the Dodge Viper ACR will live on as the fastest street-legal Viper track car ever, the car that has set the benchmark for all that follows in its tracks.”

This special-edition model takes after the first VooDoo edition that was released back in 2010, and features a number of aesthetic enhancements, but absolutely nothing in the form of drivetrain or chassis upgrades. There were 31 units of the original VooDoo edition built, so FCA has limited production of the VoooDoo II to just 31 units as well. No pricing information is available at this time, but as a limited-production model, you can bet Dodge is going to grab every penny it can from enthusiasts that hate to see the car go. What makes the Dodge Viper VoooDoo II Edition ACR special

As I mentioned before, the VoooDoo II Edition is modeled after the original VooDoo edition of 2010 and is based on the Viper ACR. On the outside, it picks up an extreme aero package that features a more dramatic rear wing to go with a front spoiler. And, since it's based on the ACR, it has the large side vents on the hood to go with an elevated intake in the middle. To the sides, the car is practically unchanged, still sporting that wicked fender vent ahead of the doors and the side-mounted exhaust outlets. It does feature a VoooDoo badge behind the front wheel arch on that long fender. As far as the exterior finish goes, the car features a gloss-black exterior and a Graphite Metallic ACR stripe on the driver’s side of the car. That stripe also features a red tracer outline.

On the inside, the VoooDoo II naturally has an ACR interior with silver accent stitching, an elevated center console, and racing seats. The dashboard also receives a special serial number badge to help those inside remember that they are in a special edition model. Outside of this, the interior is bone stock as far as we can tell, so don’t expect much if you see one in the metal.

Dodge also neglected to do anything in the power department, so expect the same 8.4-liter V-10 from the standard ACR. Of course, that is nothing to really be upset about, as it does deliver 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission. With all that power sent to the rear wheels, the car should be able to hit 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, with top speed sitting around 193 mph. The same story goes for the chassis and suspension – there are just no upgrades there either, but the car does sport carbon ceramic brakes, so at least you know it can stop.

With that said, the car also comes with a car cover that matches the exterior color scheme, plus it gets the owner's name embroidered on it to tell the world who owns the beast that lies underneath. All told, the VoooDoo II is a nice-looking special-edition model, but at the end of the day, it’s nothing more than some paint with an ACR driver’s stripe, a VoooDoo badge, a serial-numbered plate on the dash, and a customized car cover. Hopefully, Dodge doesn’t try to pull too hard of a premium, but you can bet they’ll try to get as much out of these limited-edition models as they can.

Dodge Viper ACR

For a while, Dodge took a break from producing the range-topping Viper ACR, but then the 2014 SEMA Show brought the Viper ACR Concept. At the time, we weren’t sure what FCA was thinking, but it ultimately led to the new Viper ACR in late 2015. As a track-ready monster, the Viper ACR sports a number of exterior enhancements over the standard Viper, including a front spoiler, and an aggressive, downforce-producing rear spoiler, plus a sport-inspired paint job. For the 2016 model year, the Viper ACR is priced at $117,895 before options, guzzler tax, and destination.
