Twenty-seven years ago, in 1991, John Hennessey began modifying cars with the goal of maximizing their potential well beyond what automakers were able to, or wanted to do. Since then, Hennessey has become a household name in the auto world, and to celebrate the company’s 10,000th tuning creation, Hennessey is rolling out 19 units of the Ford Mustang Hennessey Heritage Edition.

What makes the Ford Mustang Hennessey Heritage Edition so special

The word “special” is used so liberally these days that the context behind it has become blurred. Fortunately, there’s nothing vague and confusing about the Ford Mustang Hennessey Heritage Edition. This is a proper special edition model. Not only is it limited to just 19 units, but it also packs upgrades in just about every section of the muscle car.

Take a deep dive into the roots of the car and you’ll see that the special edition Hennessey-tuned Mustang is actually based on another special edition model, specifically the 2018 Ford Mustang Heritage Edition. The tie-in is important in the context of understanding the upgrades Hennessey gave the muscle car. On the outside, carbon fiber body parts are the most prominent additions. Hennessey also threw in a stainless steel exhaust system, a set of 20-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and a livery package that’s largely similar to the one Ford used on its own Heritage Edition ‘Stangs.

The interior also gets its own set of upgrades, none more significant than the individually numbered dashboard plaques that specifically denote the model number of the 19 units that Hennessey is building. The tuner is also throwing in a letter of authenticity and a personal letter of gratitude from John Hennessey himself.

As prominent as the changes are in the exterior and interior, the true highlight of the Hennessey Heritage Edition ‘Stangs can be found under the hood of the car. That’s where a modified version of Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8 engine sits. Not content with the Mustang’s standard power and performance figures, Hennessey installed an assortment of hardware and software upgrades on the unit, including adding a meaty supercharger and a custom intercooler. The end result is a car that produces a whopping 808 horsepower and 677 pound-feet of torque, figures that should be enough to help move a mountain or two. With the new output in place, Hennessey’s Heritage Edition Mustangs are said to be capable of sprinting from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds, going on to a top speed of 200 mph.

Needless to say, the exclusivity attached to the Heritage Edition Mustangs means that each of the 19 units won't come cheap. To that end, the limited-run muscle car carries a base price of $89,950. The price could shoot up depending on the options you want to add, but at the end of the day, this is one special edition Ford Mustang that you need to have on your radar.

Hennessey’s not the type to celebrate milestone occasions, but there's something that’s hyped about this particular LE. Maybe it’s the color treatment or the engine upgrades. Maybe it’s even the amount of power it now has thanks to the Texas-based tuner. Whatever the case may be, this is one special edition creation that you wouldn’t want to miss out on under any circumstances.
