The sixth-generation Ford Mustang gained a comprehensive facelift for the 2018 model year, and the update also injected a bit more power into the 5.0-liter V-8. But if 460 horsepower still isn't enough for you and you simply can't wait for the Shelby GT500 model in 2020, there are plenty of shops to choose from if you want to supercharge your pony. Roush is one of them, and its new JackHammer package will put more than 700 horsepower under your gas pedal.

Based on the latest Mustang GT, the JackHammer package is pretty much a Stage 3 update with some extra features. As usual, you get the sportier appearance with black body inserts, a range of stripe and hockey stick graphics, and a handful of bespoke features inside the cabin. Under the hood, there's a brand-new supercharged atop the 5.0-liter V-8 and plenty of oomph to take the fastback to the drag strip. Let's find out more about that below.

What makes the Roush JackHammer Mustang special

- High-flow grille - Big splitter - Hockey stick stripes - Trunk lid spoiler - 20-inch wheels - "Roush" badges - Optional leather seats - Supercharged V-8 - 710 horsepower - Updated suspension - High-performance tires

Based on the facelifted Mustang GT, the JackHammer stands out by means of familiar Roush add-ons and a bunch of exclusive features. Up front, there's a new, high-flow grille with a small "JH" badge. The lower intake was also modified to allow more air to flow in the engine bay, but it's the black bumper insert that catches the eye. The splitter is significantly larger than anything else seen on factory Mustang and gives the JackHammer a race-inspired look. The regular side vents were replaced with larger holes carved in triangular black bezels. Finally, the engine hood features louvered heat extractors while the windshield bears the familiar "Roush" banner.

Onto the sides, we can spot a new set of five-spoke wheels wrapped in high-performance tires. The rollers measure 20 inches and are finished in gloss black as standard, a unique feature. The fenders sports "Roush" badges, as well as hockey stripe graphics borrowed from Stage 3 models. The body-colored scoops on the rear fenders make the Mustang seem wider and improve cooling to the rear brakes. Around back, there's a black spoiler on the trunk lid and the traditional black fascia with "Roush" lettering.

The options list provides a few more features, such as a matte black Top Performance stripe with accent colors in Matte Black Jack, Sin City Silver, Performance Pearl, and Red Blooded American. You can also get black quarter window scoops and black exhaust tips.

Interior modifications aren't as comprehensive, but customers will find a "Roush" medallion on the dashboard, embroidered floor mats, and illuminated sill plates with "Roush" lettering. Optionally, you can order billet sports pedal, a black shifter ball for the manual model, a bespoke instrument cluster gauge, and a toolkit in the trunk. A leather seat option for either the base or the sporty Recaro units round off the JackHammer package.

It's the drivetrain that gives the JackHammer its cool status. Instead of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 in the GT, this muscle car usees a supercharged unit. The blower is called the Roush TVS 2650, it's new-for-2018, and increases the V-8's output to a whopping 710 horsepower. That's more than enough to smoke your neighbor's Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and win a few races at the drag strip.

Two transmission choices are available, a six-speed manual or, if you don't like to row your own, Ford's relatively new 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Upgrades go beyond the supercharger, with the engine also using heavy-duty half shafts and a Roush strut tower brace. A JackHammer, serialized engine bay plaque lets you know that the 5.0-liter V-8 is far from regular. The standard Mustang suspension was replaced with a one-way adjustable coilover system, but you can also opt for a three-way coilover suspension at extra cost. An active exhaust system is also available. Stopping power comes from bigger brakes, while grip is ensured by new, Ultra High-Performance Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires.

The JackHammer package costs $14,765, not including the base vehicle. Add the Ford Mustang GT, which retails from $35,190, and this supercharged Roush fastback will set you back $49,955 before options.
