Each vehicle type comes with the best suitable and famous colors. According to DuPont Automotive’s 2005 Color Popularity Report, the top five most famous colors for Sports Utility Vehicle and trucks are White, which takes up 21 percent; Gray – 17 percent, Silver – 16 percent, Blue – 12 percent, and Red – 11 percent. The list also rounds up Black, Light Brown, Green, and Yellow. 

For mid-size and full-size cars, the most famous colors are Silver – 21 percent, Gray – 14 percent, Red – 13 percent, Light Brown – 12 percent, and Blue & White – 11 percent. Meanwhile for sports cars, the list includes the usual popular colors but with Black taking up 14 percent.

From DuPont Automotive’s 2005 Color Popularity Report, the least famous are the unique car colors. These are green, brown, gold, indigo, orange, pink, and yellow. These car colors only take up a minimal percentage which ranges from 1 to 5 percent.

Picking the right color of your car also has a brand name attached to it. For instance, if you decide to have a blue Ferrari, its brand name will not stick to your car. This is because Ferrari cars are much associated with the red color. In addition, Ferrari also manufactures mostly red cars. They seldom paint cars with a different color aside from red. However, if you want to be unique, then go ahead. What matters most is that you are comfortable with the color of your car.

A car color also depicts sexuality. If you are a man, of course, you should not select a pink colored vehicle – it is just totally wrong unless you are a gay. Manly car colors include black, metallic, blue, and red. For married couples who share cars, the safe colors to choose are silver, white, gray, blue, and red. For a woman buyer, it is very easy to choose a car color because all of them suits femininity. A woman can pick a blue or a metallic car without affecting her sexuality while a man can not.

For places (such as Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and California) that take up too much sun, stay away from dark colors – black, dark blue, metallic, brown, and red. The safe and sound colors for sunny places include white, yellow, green, gray, and silver.

Colors also have a long-lasting association with a vehicle. For example, most police cars are colored with white, the taxis in New York are yellow, most sports cars have a bright color, and most executive cars are either black or silver.   

Colors can also be used to determine if a car is stolen or not. If you decide to purchase a second hand car, just always remember to check if its color goes with its description as stated in the car’s title. If the used car is blue but its registration paper states that it is red, then there is something wrong with it. Maybe that car was wrecked and its body parts were sold separately. Or maybe that car was stolen and its parts were repainted with a different color so that it will not be detected easily.   

The choice of a car color also depends on your lifestyle. Most top businessmen and company executives would prefer to have the “luxury colors”. These include the black, silver, and gray.

If you will buy a car and use it in one of your adventures or travels then select a color carefully. Dessert adventurers and travelers should buy a car that does not go with their surroundings. For safety reasons, dessert travelers must stay away with brown and gold because if something will happen to your car, you will be spotted immediately and will be given assistance.

Colors too can be an efficient way to prevent accidents. According to a study published in 2003 by the British Medical Journal, cars with silver colors tend to be safer in the road. They have fewer disasters and less crash injuries. However, there is no certain color that can be called as the safest because it always depends on the car’s driver.
