It's been five years since production of the fourth-generation Infiniti M->ke269 began in 2010, and nothing much has changed except for receiving a hybrid->ke147 drivetrain in 2012 and being renamed as the Q70->ke4847 in 2014. For the 2015, however, the Japanese introduced a refreshed design and a long-wheelbase version made available in both the U.S. and China. At the Shanghai Auto Show,->ke2470 Infiniti->ke36 took things up a notch by unveiling the Bespoke Edition, a Q70L fitted with an exclusive interior that borrows from other concept cars->ke169 the luxury->ke505 brand introduced recently.

"Today’s display reinforces Infiniti’s distinctive design language of power and artistry, with the Q70L translating that seamlessly into an interior treatment," said Roland Krueger, president of Infiniti Motor Company.

The Q70L Bespoke Edition was unveiled alongside the Q60 Concept and the Q80 Inspiration, which made their official debut in Asia and likely preview future production cars.

Exterior

The exterior of the Q70L Bespoke Edition is a case of "Nothing to see here, move along." Unless you're obsessed with this car's design -- nothing wrong with that -- and can't get enough of it, there's nothing to see as this Q70L is like any of its standard siblings. Of course, as its name suggests, it's a long-wheelbase version of the Q70, meaning it's 5.9 inches longer than the regular model.

Infiniti did use a different exterior color for this concept, called Arctic Aluminum (borrowed from the Q60 Concept). It's an interesting hue, with a liquid metal-like glow that slightly changes color depending on background and light. In these, photos, for instance, the sedan wears a very light shade of blue.

The fact that Infiniti selected the stretched variant of the Q70 for this special edition comes at no surprise, as China->ke2090 is known for having a great appetite for LWD vehicles, and has a wide range such models, many which aren't available in other markets.

Interior

The interior is where this Q70L really shines. Taking inspiration from the Q80 Inspiration and Q60 Concept, the sedan's->ke142 four seats are wrapped in white quilted leather, a plush material that can also be seen on the door panels. The steering wheel, the glove compartment, armrests, and the door inserts, swathed in black leather, are all stitched by hand.

The lower dashboard is also finished in white to match the door panels and the seats. Additionally, the gray wood trim, which allows a smooth transition between the black and white surfaces of the dashboard, the door panels, and the center console, is different than any option you can get with the regular Q70L. At least here in the U.S.

Everything else is standard Q70L business, but the added features are enough to make the Bespoke Edition stand out without being too cheesy.

Infiniti says the interior of the Bespoke Edition is meant to fill the gap between the interiors of the company's production cars and the more outlandish cabins of its concept vehicles, "...hinting at how the artistry of Infiniti’s concept cars can become reality." Unfortunately, there's no word as to whether the Bespoke Edition will go into production or whether its lavish interior will be offered as an option at some point.

Drivetrain

There's no word as to what motivates this concept car, but should it become a production model, customers will get to choose from the two drivetrains available for the China-spec Q70L.

First up is a gasoline, 2.5-liter V-6 rated at 218 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. Not available in the U.S., this powerplant is shared with Asian market Nissans->ke62 such as the Skyline->ke1997 and Fuga,->ke2986 as well as the Infiniti QX 50->ke2856 crossover.->ke288

The second choice is the hybrid->ke147 drivetrain that brings together the familiar 3.5-liter V-6 and a 43 kW electric motor. Combined output is 360 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque.

As you might have already guessed, Chinese customers can't buy the Q70L with the 3.7-liter V-6 or the 5.6-liter V-8 Infiniti is offering in the U.S.

Prices

While Infiniti has yet to announce whether the Bespoke Edition's interior will be put into production, it's safe to assume such a model would fetch significantly more than the current range-topping models, which start from CNY575,800 (about $92,833) with the 2.5 V-6 and CNY745,800 (around $120,222) with the hybrid drivetrain.

Don't get your hopes up getting the Bespoke Edition in the U.S., though a fancier interior might find its way to North America at some point.

Competition

BMW 5 Series LWB

Unlike other markets, China only gets the BMW 5 Series->ke317 with a stretched wheelbase. The sedan is 5.5 inches longer than its regular siblings and available in nine trim levels, powered by either a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder or 3.0-liter V-6 engine, both featuring BMW's->ke178 Twin Power turbo technology. Outputs range from 181 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque to 302 horses and 295 pound-feet. Both powerplants mate to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing starts from CNY435,600 (around $70,261) for the base 520Li Prestige and from CNY778,600 (about $125,590) for the range-topping 535Li Executive.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB

Same as the with the 5 Series, the E-Class->ke373 is also sold in LWB configuration only in China. Similarities with the Bimmer continue into the trim levels, as the Germans offer eight versions. Four are motivated by the 2.0-liter four-pot, which comes in three flavors, with outputs ranging 170 horsepower and 207 pound-feet to 211 horses and 258 pound-feet. The more powerful 3.0-liter V-6 pumps out 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of twist. Lastly, there's the E400 L Hybrid, whose 3.5-liter V-6 and electric motor crank out 306 horses and 273 pound-feet combined.

Pricing-wise, the E-Class has the advantage of a cheaper base model, with the E 180 L priced from CNY398,000 (around $64,197). The top-of-the-line hybrid sedan fetches CNY798,000 (about $128,662) before options.

Audi A6 L

Not surprising, the A6->ke934 is also offered with a longer wheelbase as standard, although customers can get the shorter version as the A6 Hybrid and the performance-oriented S6.->ke1207 Also available in numerous trims, the A6L comes with either a 2.0-liter four-banger, a 2.5-liter V-6, a 2.8-liter V-6, or a 3.0-liter V-6 under the hood. Yup, the 90s called and they want their Audi engines back.

Motivated by 177 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, the entry-level A6L TFSI Basic is priced from CNY383,000 (around $61,787). At the other end of the range, the A6L 50 TFSI quattro Luxury offers 306 horses and 325 pound-feet for at least CNY742,600 (about $119,798).

Conclusion

Granted, the Bespoke Edition isn't the kind of concept that gets a lot of attention at auto shows, but, if put into production, it may very well give the German midsize,->ke1695 LWB sedans a reason to check over their shoulders.
