We previously knew it as the Thunder, but British sports car company Lister is renaming its Jaguar F-Type-based supercar with a somewhat more appropriate name that reflects its capabilities. So instead of the Lister Thunder, we’re going to have to get used to calling this beast the LFT-666. The model isn’t entirely new; in fact, we’ve discussed it a few times the past, most recently in June 2018. But, apparently, a lot has changed since June 2018. The Lister Thunder now goes by a different and far more fitting name.

It's Not the Thunder, It's the LFT-666

What’s in a name? Apparently for Lister, a lot. We’ve already been introduced to the Lister Thunder a few times. Some of us already know what it has and what it’s capable of. But as it turns out, there are still a few things about the supercar that needed some changing, one of which is its name.

Lister CEO Laurence Whitaker broke down the reasons why the Lister Thunder is now called the LFT-666. According to Whitaker, the name change was made in the name of nomenclature consistency with some of the company’s future models. Originally,” Whitaker said, “we named the prototype the Lister 'Thunder’, however, due to future model lineage, all 99 production models will now be known as Lister LFT-666s. It’s a befitting title and one where an intrigued passer-by instantly knows the brake horsepower of each Lister model."

What Whitaker didn’t mention was that “LFT-666” is not only a cooler name than “Thunder,” but the reference to the car’s power output will also lead to references to what the number 666 is more popularly associated with it. No, this isn’t the devil’s car, but the industry’s fascination in using the name and likeness of the being we associate with pure evil is something that has been happening for a while now. Hey, look, it’s the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon!

Other than the name change, not a lot is different from the LFT-666 from the last time we saw it. The car still features a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that’s been tuned to produce 666 horsepower and 720 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers will help the LFT-666 sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 208 mph.

The name change of the Jaguar F-Type-based supercar isn’t expected to dissuade people from placing orders. Interest in the 666-horsepower machine remains high, even as we approach October 1, Lister’s target date for the first LFT-666 to be ready for delivery to the lucky guy who called first dibs on the model. The British automaker only plans to sell 99 units, each at a cost of £139,950. That’s just under $200,000 based on current exchange rates.

Those who will miss out on buying the LFT-666 will receive a lifeline of sorts from the British automaker in the form of wheel and body enhancements for standard Jaguar F-Type models all over the world. This kit includes bumper and wheel upgrades, as well as cosmetic badges throughout the body. The kit costs just £9,750, which converts to just under $13,000. Those who avail this option won't be able to use the LFT-666 name. Instead, their models will be known simply as the Lister LFT.
