The Lamborghini Huracán Spyder is a very special car that deserves the utmost care and affection. There are a variety of different ways to do that and one tuner in particular is making a very compelling case for going the aftermarket route to give the Huracán Spyder some love. The company calls it itself Vision on Speed, or as it’s more popularly known, VOS Performance. A lot of you might be familiar with VOS Performance’s work, having previously done kits for cars like the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Lamborghini Huracán. Now it’s the Huracán Spyder’s turn in the tuning spotlight and VOS Performance is accommodating that in kind with a program that includes power enhancements to the tune of 630 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.

The output increase is pretty subtle but it’s also just a small part of the overall tuning program. For instance, VOS Performance also added a comprehensive aerodynamic body kit with pieces made largely from carbon fiber. Interior modifications are also included in the tuning menu with plenty of bespoke elements inside the Huracán Spyder’s cabin. Don’t sleep on the set of wheels and the suspension upgrades too.

Overall, VOS Performance’s program for the Huracán Spyder is impressively comprehensive. Sure, there are other kits available for the Huracán that offer more power gains than the one VOS is providing. But as far as body of work is concerned, VOS Performance accounted well for itself with a program that’s going to spell a world of difference for the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder.

Exterior

Like most of VOS Performance’s past programs, the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder received a good dose of aerodynamic body panels, most of which are made from carbon fiber. The most prominent of these panels is the rear wing that sits at the back of the supercar and helps aid in improving the Huracán Spyder’s downforce. Likewise, an optional track-oriented rear wing is also available and can be mechanically adjusted to suit the preference of the driver. Complementing the carbon fiber rear wing are carbon fiber mirror caps, a front spoiler lip, door handles, a fuel flap, and a new set of 20- and 21-inch LM wheels that VOS Performance received from aftermarket peer Mansory. The wheels themselves have the option to be wrapped in either Michelin or Pirelli tires measuring 245/30ZR20 and 325/25ZR21 in the front and rear, respectively.

The exterior upgrades are not overblown when you compare it to what other tuners have done with their own kits for the Huracán Spyder’s coupe counterpart. In fact, VOS Performance has its own program for the Huracán and not surprisingly, the modifications are similar, right down to the front spoiler lip, mirror caps, fuel flap, rear diffuser, and even the choice of a rear wing.

What other tuners have done

So far, there’s one aftermarket company that has also presented a program for the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder. That tuner was Novitec Torado and it introduced its kit for the drop-top Huracán back in August 2016. The exterior upgrades included in that program can be considered as more comprehensive, in large part because it added a new front splitter, rocker panels, side intakes, an engine cover, rear diffuser, tail lamp moldings, and a lip spoiler to the Lambo. The tuner even offered presented owners a choice of trading in the lip spoiler for an actual rear wing, and knowing that this is Novitec Torado, the pieces it built for the Huracán Spyder’s tuning kit were all tested in a wind tunnel. Last but not least were the similarly sized 20- and 21-inch three-piece NL1 alloy wheels that the German tuner was offering with a set of Pirelli P-Zero tires that measured 45/30 ZR20 and 325/25 ZR21 in the front and back, respectively.

Interior

Move to the interior of the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder and you’ll be happy to know that VOS Performance didn’t leave that section of the car untouched like what other tuners are prone to do. For its part, the German tuner actually added a few, but no less significant, bespoke elements to the convertible, starting with carbon fiber treatment on the air vents, door handles, and the center console. Even the have received a similar carbon fiber treatment. There’s even a matte carbon cover just above the display unit to add an extra layer of bespoke goodness to the entire proceedings. VOS Performance finished the whole thing off with Alcantara-covered sports seats and more carbon fiber on the entry rails and paddle shifters to give the Huracán Spyder’s interior a full-on carbon fiber experience.

Most of these upgrades are also present in VOS Performance’s previous tuning program for the Lamborghini Huracán. That kit did come with some added elements, most notably the steering wheel, which received paddle shifters and rocker covers dressed in carbon fiber.

Lamborghini Ad Personam

Compare what VOS Performance did to the cabin of the Huracán Spyder with other aftermarket firms and you’ll notice that very few tuners actually offer interior upgrades as part of their programs for the Huracán. While that is a little surprising, it’s also a testament to the work Lamborghini put into these cabins to make them look and feel as bespoke and super premium as possible. Fortunately, the absence of any interior upgrade options in the aftermarket world doesn’t necessarily mean that owners are going to be shut out completely.

For that they can go directly to Lamborghini and the Italian automaker’s Ad Personam division. In a lot of ways, Ad Personam is actually a better option for those cosmetic upgrades because it offers a wealth of them, addressing every crease and corner of a Lamborghini interior. Without going into detail on all of the options available, Ad Personam has a wealth of choice of leather, Alcantara, seat, and trim options, not to mention the option of actually getting forged composite carbon fiber on your car. That said, you might need to ask Lamborghini if forged composite carbon fiber is already available for the Huracán or Huracán Spyder because previously, it was only available exclusively to the Lamborghini Aventador.

Drivetrain

This is where things get interesting because VOS Performance’s engine upgrade for the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder doesn’t actually involve the supercar’s 5.2-liter V-10 engine. What it did though was install a new titanium exhaust from Akropovic, which not only weighs 44 pounds lighter than the stock exhaust on the Huracán Spyder, but it also adds around 20 horsepower and 16 pound-feet of torque to the car’s overall output. The result then is a new output of 630 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent to the two axles through a dual-clutch, seven-speed transmission. No mention was made on how much these extra horses help improve the Huracán Spyder’s performance time, but with the standard model’s ability to hit 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds to go with a top speed exceeding 202 mph, the VOS Performance-tuned Huracán Spyder should be able to hit those marks in 3.1 seconds and 205 mph, respectively. Those numbers are just estimates, however.

What other tuners have done

If we’re being honest, the added numbers aren’t really that much. They certainly fall dramatically short of what Novitec Torado was able to achieve with its own engine upgrade for the Huracán Spyder. That program actually included two new superchargers, which were largely responsible for adding a staggering 250 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to the output of the supercar. Add that up to the Huracán Spyder’s standard output and you get an incredible 860 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque, head and shoulders more than what VOS Performance was able to achieve. Novitec Torado even said that with the superchargers in tow, the Huracán Spyder would be able to hit 60 mph in the 2.5-second range while easily eclipsing 220 mph in top speed.

Even tuners who developed kits for the coupe version of the Huracán have more to offer than VOS Performance. xXx Performance, for example, relied on an ECU remap and a new air intake to push the V-10 engine’s output to 690 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, good enough for a 0-to-60-mph time in around three seconds to go with a top speed of 205.

Then there’s O.CT Tuning, which worked on a similar “let’s-throw-in-a-supercharger” blueprint as Novitec Torado. The tuner even threw in a few software upgrades into the mix, resulting in an output of 805 horsepower and 597 pound-feet of torque, helping the Huracán sprint from 0 to 62 mph in around 2.5 seconds before maxing out at north of 220 mph.

Pricing

VOS Performance is selling its Lamborghini Huracán program with the actual car so the whole thing costs €243,277.31 ($257,900), excluding the VAT. Tack on that expense, which goes up to €46,222.69 ($49,000) – that’s 19% VAT! – and the total reaches up to €289,500, or somewhere in the vicinity of $306,900 based on current exchange rates.

It is worth noting that by comparison, VOS Performance’s kit for the Lamborghini Huracan “only” adds up to €204,500, or about $216,780 based on current exchange rates. That sum total comes as a result of adding €171,848.74 ($182,165) and €32,651.26 ($34,611).

Competition

Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 N-Largo by Novitec Torado

There have been plenty of tuners that have developed programs for the Lamborghini Huracán, although the kits do appear to be heavily in favor of the coupe version of the Italian supercar. One of these programs come by way of Novitec Torado, the same tuner that presented us that 860-horsepower upgrade for the Huracán Spyder. This particular kit, called N-Largo, was actually released earlier and like its counterpart in the Huracán Spyder, it too is able to get the V-10 engine’s output up to 860 horsepower and 708 pound-feet of torque. The result is a car that can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in around 2.5 seconds to go with a top speed north of 220 mph.

Lamborghini Huracán LP850-4 Lucifero by Wheelsandmore

Another program dedicated to the Lamborghini Huracán is this one from Wheelsandmore, which, as the name suggests, has no real good intentions for the Huracán owner. Like most tuning kits for the Lamborghini, the devil is in the details here, no pun intended. Wheelsandmore is known for its multi-level engine programs and this one, in particular, features exactly that, thanks in part to a multi-stage compressor kit that adds more power to the car’s powerful V-10. The result is an output of as much as 850 horsepower from the tuner’s Stage III engine kit. Those who opted for for something a little less mental also had the option of getting the Stage I kit that was good for 640 horsepower or the Stage II kit that brought the power levels up to 777 ponies. Performance numbers were not announced at the time of the program’s debut, but with that kind of engine upgrade, a sprint time to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds is as good a guess as any. Likewise, a top speed north of 220 mph would also be in line with those estimates.

Conclusion

I've been impressed with some of VOS Performance's past works but this one just doesn't cut the mustard for me. I do like the carbon fiber aero kit, the bespoke treatment on the Huracán Spyder's interior, and the new set of Mansory wheels. But the program falls apart in the engine department where, quite frankly, there's not much to go around in terms of significant power improvements. There are more rounded programs out there for the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder – Novitec Torado's comes to mind – where owners can get more for the money they're going to have to pay for them.
