Introduced in 2014 as a replacement for the Freelander, the Land Rover Discovery Sport needs only a few years to become the fastest-selling Land Rover of all time. The crossover's popularity prompted Land Rover to create a range of special-edition models, the latest of which is called the Landmark Edition and it's available for the 2018 model year.

Another reason why Land Rover chose the Discovery Sport to be the designated nameplate for special-edition model is because it was also the first model to be built on the company's 70th birthday on 30 April. The vehicle will thus be used to support a number of projects in 2018, starting with a community resilience project in Scotland. The Landmark Edition adds unique color and trim combinations to the popular crossover, pairing them with a powerful version of the 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel engine. Let's find out more about it below.

What makes the Land Rover Discovery Landmark Edition special

- Grey roof - Graphite accents - Only three exterior colors - 19-inch wheels - Ebony grained leather - Standard panoramic roof - 2.0-liter diesel engine - 180 horsepower - 317 pound-feet of torque

You might find it hard to notice the Landmark Edition among other Discovery Sport models, but that's because Land Rover wanted a subdued appearance for this crossover. However, you can spot it quick enough if you after hints like the Carpathian Grey roof and the Graphite Atlas accents on the grille, bumpers, and wheel arches. It also sports a set of 19-inch "Mantis" wheels in Gloss Dark Grey, while the exterior color palette is limited to only three hues. There's Narvik Black, Corris Grey, and Yulong White. Needless to say, if you want a strong contrast with the grey roof and body accents, it's best to go with the white paint.

Inside the cabin, you'll find grained leather seats in Ebony color and a matching headliner. There's also dark grey aluminum trim on the center stack and a panoramic roof. Standard features also include a Meridian sound system and a heated steering wheel. Granted, it's not much over the standard setup, but it's a combination you can't get via the options list.

While the Discovery Sport is usually available with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, the Landmark Edition is restricted to the 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel unit. Shared with the XE sedan, this oil burner replaced the old 2.2-liter unit, and it's available with either 150, 180, or 240 horsepower. This crossover gets the middle version, which also generates a solid 317 pound-feet of torque. The sprint to 62 mph takes 8.9 seconds, while top speed is limited to 117 mph. The new-generation diesel and the automatic transmission enable the Discovery Sport to return up to 53.3 mpg on the highway on the British cycle.

Pricing information is not yet available, but expect it to cost more than the model it is based on, which retails from £36,570.
