As if the 2015 McLaren 650S and 625C aren’t awesome enough by themselves, McLaren Special Operations is giving owners more reason to enjoy their exotics with the creation of MSO Defined, a new personalization division under MSO that offers a number of series options for both the 650S and the 625C. In the nutty world of automotive personalization, the MSO Defined division adds even more bespoke goodies to two McLarens->ke284 that already have those in abundance.

The 650S, in particular, got a splattering of new aerodynamic goodies and bespoke trim options that fall right in line with British supercar brand's promise of giving its customers a hand in customizing and designing their own McLarens according to their tastes and preferences.

As the first of five tiers of personalization being offered by MSO, the MSO Defined division joins forces with MSO Bespoke, which specializes in creating one-off models. Since MSO’s inception, MSO Bespoke has been responsible for a handful of crazy one-offs, including the 2013 “Mark Cavendish” 12C and the mental 2013 McLaren X-1 that made its jaw-dropping debut at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance.->ke2839

Other MSO divisions include MSO Limited, which is responsible for building limited-edition series production cars like the aforementioned MSO 650S and the 2015 MSO 650S Spider. Then there’s MSO Heritage, which focuses exclusively on the storage and maintenance of historic McLarens, and finally there’s MSO Programmes, which is dedicated to the development of the McLaren P1 GTR Driver Programme.

Exterior

The highlight of the MSO Defined division is a new aerodynamic kit that can be fitted on the 650S to further enhance the supercar’s already glorious design. We know what you’re thinking: the 650S really doesn’t need any more upgrades. But if McLaren’s making some upgrades available, well, why not, right?

Included in the aero kit are mirror arms, a carbon-fiber rear diffuser, a full carbon-fiber rear deck, and extended side-door blades that we first saw on the 2015 McLaren MSO 650S, which made its debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. These upgrades won’t necessarily drown the 650S's original styling; they’ll just complement what’s already there.

Interior

Inside, MSO Defined is offering a full plate of carbon-fiber options, including new shift paddles and a redesigned instrument cluster that features Formula One-->ke662inspired shift lights. These lights are mounted on the cluster and have been made available because of public demand.

Drivetrain

The McLaren 650S is more than just a design spinoff of the 12C and the P1. It also comes with a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-8 that pumps out a tidy 640 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in three seconds and from 0 to 124 mph in 8.4 seconds. Top speed is capped at 207 mph, although with that much power, it does feel like the 650S should go a lot faster than that.

Prices

McLaren didn’t say how much it’s going to cost to get all the MSO Defined goodies in the 650S. We suppose the cost will vary depending on what personalized additions a specific customer wants to put in his or her supercar. So instead of making any guesses, we’re just going to point out that a 650S costs $265,500.

Competition

Aston Martin V12 Vantage S by Q by Aston Martin

The Aston Martin V12 Vantage S doesn’t have nearly the same amount of power as the McLaren 650S, but we’re talking about pitting one personalization division against the other. In this case, Q by Aston Martin can definitely hold its own against McLaren Special Operations. The former has actually produced a handful of personalized models in 2014, including this wonderful take on the V12 Vantage S Q by Aston Martin has also worked on other Aston Martin models, including the Vanquish Coupe, the Vanquish Volante, and the DB9 Volante.

The level of personalization is arguably more detailed with Q by Aston Martin, but MSO does have the advantage of having the capabilities to build one-off models like the X-1.

Conclusion

Obviously, the MSO Defined division isn’t for everybody. But for those who have a McLaren 650S, MSO Defined offers a medium for adding personalized touches to its supercars. Whether it's adding an aero kit or dressing up the interior, MSO Defined offers a myriad of personalized options customers can take full advantage of.

More importantly, the launch of MSO Defined goes to show how much McLaren values the input of its customers.
