First unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, the McLaren 570S hit the segment as a more accessible, daily-driver-friendly way to get into the McLaren lifestyle. Following in its footsteps was the GT model, revealed at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. Now, there’s a new bespoke variant of the 570GT on offer, and it’s called the MSO Black Collection, bringing customers a custom exterior style, extra aural presence, and a slew of top-shelf standard features.

What Makes The McLaren 570GT MSO Black Collection Special

Taking responsibility for the creation of this special edition variant of the 570GT is McLaren Special Operations, otherwise known as MSO, the brand’s go-to customization and go-faster division. Intended as an expansion of the Sport Series, the MSO Black Collection offers buyers a customized and unique take on the standard 570GT formula, tossing in upgrade styling, extra performance potential, and the enhanced desirability of low production numbers.

Outside, you’ll find the high-end two-door rocking a dark-colored “stealth theme,” starting with an MSO-specific Bespoke Carbon Black paint job. Complementing the paint is the MSO Defined Black pack, which tosses in Dark Palladium-painted components for the front and rear aero, side skirts, and intake surrounds.

In the corners, you’ll find the 570GT is stuffed with lightweight forged 5 twin-spoke wheels, which come complete with a Gloss Black Diamond Wheel Finish. Wrapping the alloys is Pirelli’s P Zero Corsa rubber.

Under the wheels, the brake calipers are painted in black, squeezing carbon ceramic discs courtesy of the included Sport Pack handling upgrade.

Slide into the cabin, and you’ll find a tinted panoramic roof as standard. This is also upgradeable to an electrochromic panoramic roof as a no-cost option if desired. Typically offered as a 4,750 pound up-charge on the standard 570GT, the electrochromatic roof offers up to five different tint shades to choose from, offering either more light or more privacy as warranted.

Further black components in the cabin include Jet Black Leather and Carbon Black Alcantara accents for the headliner, central tunnel, steering wheel, lower instrument panel, and speaker surrounds. The sport seats get covered in semi-aniline leather, as well as come with electric adjustments and a heating function. Details include an MSO Defined Ignition Key with a carbon black paint finish and the MSO logo embroidered into the seat backs. There’s also a placard and special badging along the center console.

Finally, the included GT Upgrade Pack throws in niceties like a vehicle lift, rear-view camera, power adjusting steering column, and a 12-speaker audio system from Bowers & Wilkins.

In our opinion, the real cherry on top has to be the new MSO Defined Titanium SuperSports Exhaust, which comes complete with a Nano Black finisher in the rear. Not only do the lighter pipes cut out 5 kg (11 pounds) of weight, but they also increase the sound levels by 5 dB and add a sharper exhaust note - definitely a plus if expanded curb appeal is what you’re after.

“Black is a color associated with elegance, power and authority whilst also surrounded by a certain air of mystery,” says Design Director at McLaren Automotive, Rob Melville. “The end result remains true to the luxurious nature of the 570GT but we managed to further amplify its sleek, sporty character with a wealth of new MSO Defined options which I am sure will delight discerning owners.”

A total of 100 units of the 570GT MSO Black Collection will be built globally, each of which will go for about 179,950 pounds in the U.K. ($256,128 at current exchange rates, 03/26/2018).

As a reminder, the McLaren 570GT is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-8. Maximum output is rated at 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, with the 0-to-62 mph sprint completed in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is rated at 204 mph.
