Along with the unveiling of the revised E63 AMG, Mercedes->ke187 has also added a new top-of-the-line version to the lineup. The new E63 AMG S-Model will be offered in both the sedan and station wagon versions, and will add a distinctive look when compared to a standard E63 AMG model, plus a more powerful engine.

With the extra horsepower, the new E63 AMG S-Model will be a little bit faster than the standard model, plus it comes equipped with a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system and a limited-slip rear differential that helps delivering better vehicle dynamics and more driving pleasure, especially on the race-track

Pros
Cons

Exterior

The new S-Model will be further distinguished from the rest of the lineup thanks to a few exterior elements. These additions will include an "A-wing" at the front cuts in high-gloss black, the front splitter in silver chrome, striking three-dimensional inserts in the side-sill panels, a rear trim in silver chrome, plus two sets of distinctive chrome tailpipes. On the sedan model, there is also an AMG spoiler lip, while both sedan and station wagon will feature an AMG logo on the trunk lid with an "S" in contrasting black.

The model will be offered with a new set of 10-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels in a matte titanium grey paint and finish with contrasting calipers in a red finish.

Interior

For the interior, the S-Models will feature grey contrast stitching on the AMG sports seats, the door center panels, the door armrests and the center console. There will also be an "S AMG" logo on the speedometer and red applications.

The rest of the equipment will be similar to the standard version and will include an AMG Performance steering wheel in black Nappa leather, AMG door-sill panels with white LED illumination, an electrically operated rear roller blind and the anti-theft protection package.

Engine

The standard AMG 5.5-liter V-8 biturbo engine has been updated to deliver an impressive 577 horsepower and a peak torque of 590 pound-feet. The extra 27 horsepower are possible thanks to modifications to the engine management system, an increase in the fuel- injection pressure and a hike in maximum boost pressure from 13.0 to 14.5 psi.

As a result, the S-Models will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 186 mph.

Just like the standard versions, the S-Models will be offered with AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission and a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system the sends 33 percent of the engine torque to the front and 67 percent to the rear axle. The S-Model receives a limited-slip rear differential and an AMG Adaptive sports suspension with an electronically controlled damping system.

Price

The new Mercedes E63 AMG S-Model will make its world debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, with sales to begin in the summer of 2013.

Competition

With the extra 27 horsepower, the new E63 AMG S-Model has put all the usual competitors for the E63 AMG into trouble. For example, the BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4-liter V-8 engine with an M TwinPower Turbo package that delivers an impressive 560 horsepower and a peak torque of 502 pound-feet. That offers the E63 AMG S-Model an advantage of 17 horsepower, but we are wondering if it will be enough to steal the hearts of the M5 addicts.

The real bad news for the new E63 AMG S-Model, however, is the new 2014 Jaguar XFR-S. It is the least powerful model with its 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 unit that delivers a total of 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque, but if you will put it next to the E63 AMG you will easily notice that the Jaguar model has the advantage of a great look.
