German tuner G-Power is known for building programs that turn sporty vehicles into performance savants on four wheels. It’s worked its magic on a handful of BMWs over the years, but now, it’s turning its attention to Mercedes-AMG, specifically the German automaker’s powerhouse wagon, the E 63 S Wagon. At the core of G-Power’s new tuning program for the E 63 S is an engine upgrade that’s sure to rock the socks of owners who are crazy enough to get the kit. The program is definitely not for everyone, least of all those who are more than happy with having over 600 horsepower to play with. But, for the rare few who think that 600 ponies isn’t good enough, this new kit from G-Power should be right up your wheelhouse.

Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon by G-Power

You’re not getting anything cute from G-Power. The tuner is as in-your-face as it gets, and this program, well, it’s going to smash you in the face if you’re not careful. G-Power doesn’t get cute in dressing up the AMG E 63 S. There are no fancy aesthetic add-ons and very little aerodynamic upgrades to speak of. Ok, so the tuner did give the performance wagon a new set of 20-inch Hurricane wheels and wrapped them up in 245/30 ZR20 and 285/25 ZR20 tires in the front and rear, respectively. You’ll have to pay €6,681 for the wheel-and-tire combo, and if you convert that into Benjamins, that looks like a little over $7,600 of your hard-earned money.

It’s safe to say, though, that the new wheels and tires are just the appetizers to the main course. At the heart of G-Power’s program for the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is a tuning program that pushes the credentials of the performance wagon into full-fledged supercar territory. The tuner’s very own “35th Anniversary Edition” Performance Software V1 system is largely responsible for the massive increase in power, but it is supplemented by modified turbochargers, new stainless steel downpipes, and a stainless steel exhaust. It’s not much of a program in terms of quantity, but when has G-Power blinded our sensibilities with quantity? This kit is, straight and pure, all about the quality that comes with the German tuner’s aftermarket expertise.

Put all the changes in place, and the results are astounding. The Mercedes-AMG E 63 S raises its output from just over 600 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque to a staggering 800 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. Do the math, and you’re looking at an increase of almost 200 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque, which is already the output you get from an entry-level sports car. The massive increase in power manifests itself in the power-packed wagon’s performance times. The super wagon — we can call it that now, can’t we? — can now accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.1 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the standard model. If that isn’t enough, the wagon’s top speed limiter has also been removed, giving it the freedom to stretch its legs to the tune of a 211-mph top speed. That’s right in the vicinity of what the Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and McLarens of the world can do.

Needless to say, you’re going to have to spend big to own big. The full kit offered by G-Power can set you back around €20,000. That’s almost $23,000 in tuning upgrades alone. Combine that with the $106,950 starting price of the AMG E 63 S, and you’re looking at costs that could reach $130,000. It’s probably not the smartest way to spend that kind of money — who really needs an 800-horsepower station wagon when you already have a 600-horsepower one? — but who needs common sense when you have a wagon that can go as fast as some of the finest British and Italian supercars in the world?

If anything, $130,000 is a cheap price to pay to get a completely uninhibited version of the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S.
