There’s no denying the impressive nature of the Mercedes-Benz 4x4². From its portal axles and tall ground clearance to its twin-turbocharged V-8 and screaming paint colors, the jacked-up Geländewagen is jaw-dropping. But what’s a real four-wheel drive enthusiast think? Or more importantly, what does a four-wheel drive entrepreneur think about it?

That’s exactly what /Drive wanted to know, so a trip was in order to Icon 4x4 in Los Angeles to get the opinions of Jonathan Ward, the CEO and lead designer for Icon 4x4. Now for those who don’t know, Icon 4x4 builds some of the baddest resto-mod four-wheel drives on the planet. It takes dilapidated Toyota FJs, Land Rover Defenders, and Ford Broncos->ke4039 and turns them into six-figure performance machines with the ability to traverse nearly any terrain while turning heads, even in LA traffic.

Needless to say, Ward’s thoughts are rather valuable. I won’t spoil all the video’s fun, but know Ward takes a rather objective yet discerning approach to reviewing the G500 4x4².->ke1712 His calm character and extensive mechanical knowledge shine through, reinforcing the idea of Icon 4x4’s strong place in the specialty aftermarket community.

Be sure to watch in full screen for the full effect. It’s worth seeing all the detailing found underneath the mighty G500 4x4².
