Introduced all the way back in 1978, the Mitsubishi L200 is now in its fifth-generation, having been redesigned most recently in 2015. Although anonymous in the U.S. beyond the Ram models based on it back in the 1980s, the L200 is a popular truck in emerging markets from Asia and posts good sales in some European markets too. The current L200 is also the basis of the Fiat Fullback, Italy's first big truck in years. The L200's increasing success in Europe prompted Mitsubishi to create a limited-edition version through its Special Vehicle Project (SVP) division.

Based on the Barbarian Double Cab trim and dubbed SVP II, this limited-edition truck builds on the success of the first SVP version, launched in 2017. Much like its predecessor, it gains extra standard features in the tech department, but it also stands out from the crowd thanks to special color schemes with striking accents. The bad news, beyond the fact that the L200 is not available in the United States, is that the SVP II can't be purchased outside the United Kingdom. What makes the Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian SVP II special?

Developed to add a bit of exclusivity to the truck, the SVP II package is mostly about the visuals. The two-tone paint scheme is an attention grabber thanks to the bright orange accents that provide a striking contrast on the dark paint options. Only two can be ordered, so you'll have to settle for orange over pearlescent Diamond Black and metallic Atlantic Grey.

The orange details are all over the place. Up front, they're around the headlamps, on the lower grille, and around the foglamps integrated into the bumper. On the sides, the orange hue brightens up the roof rails, the door handle recesses, and the wheels. The latter, which are unique to this model, measure 17 inches and sport a five-spoke design with body-colored accents over the orange hue. They're also wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires for a more rugged look. Speaking of which, Mitsubishi added larger wheel arch extensions to the front and rear fenders.

Around back, we can see more orange accents around the taillights and the tailgate handle. There's also "SVP" badging on the tailgate and bespoke steps. Added standard features over the regular trim include bed illumination, a spring-assisted tailgate with soft-opening damper, and Bi-Xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights.

The black and orange theme continues inside the cabin. The "six-pack" leather seats have suede-like inserts and orange stitching piping, while the center armrest comes with matching detailing. Each vehicle's individual limited edition number and the "SVP" logo are stitched into the headrests, while the standard floor mats were swapped with bespoke SVP one with orange piping. The illuminated footwells and door sills also project an orange light.

While the layout remains unchanged compared to the Barbarian Double Cab trim this truck is based on, the SVP II package adds quite a few extra features. The standard Smartphone Link Display Audio system allows users to connect to apps or other features through their Apple or Android phones, while the keyless operation system enables the driver to enter and start the vehicle without a key. Other extra standard features include rain and dusk sensors, Bluetooth, cruise control, and a reversing camera.

The drivetrain is identical to the regular model, so the SVP II is powered by the same all-aluminum, 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. The mill cranks out 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque (179 horsepower and 371 pound-feet) through either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. The Super Select 4WD system, which can be controlled through a rotary dial, allows drivers to switch between two- and four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 62 mph on all surfaces.

Mitsubishi will make only 250 of these truck, with half finished in black and half painted in grey. Pricing starts at £29,830, which accounts for a £2,155 discount compared to the standard Barbarian model. Not a bad deal!
