Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you know that the Star Wars franchise is experiencing a renaissance. As with most valued franchises, companies have had no problem jumping in on the bandwagon. Count Nissan among these companies and the Japanese automaker hasn’t been bashful about its partnership with Star Wars franchise. You only need to take a look at the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition that was unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show to see the lengths by which this partnership has grown in the past few years.

Based on the 2017 Nissan Rogue, the SUV gets an overdose in Star Wars-related cosmetic digs, right down to the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire logos on the cupholders and the Rogue One logo badging on the front doors. Remember in 2013 when Nissan and Star Wars also collaborated on another model, the Juke Star Wars Edition? That version had more buzz surrounding it, but you can make a case that the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition SUV received more of the stylized Star Wars treatment than the Juke ever had.

Here’s the best part about the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition: only 5,400 units are going to be made available and of that 5,400 units, 5,000 has been earmarked for the U.S. market with the remaining 400 going to Canada. It’s a far cry from the Juke Star Wars Edition, which was only made available in Japan. Remember though, the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition only comes in package form and is only available for Rogue models equipped with the Sun and Sound Touring Package. The package costs $1,990.

What makes the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition special

Coming from a Star Wars nut, I had a little bit of trouble getting my nerves out of the way to write this. But I’m okay now, so let’s dive into the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition.

Like I mentioned in the introduction, the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition isn’t a special edition SUV in the traditional sense we describe those models. It’s actually a special edition package that can be added into a Rogue SUV that comes with a Sun and Sound Touring package. Seems straightforward enough, right?

So what do you get with the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition package? On the outside, the package comes with plenty of cosmetic changes, not the least of which are two specific body colors for the Rogue: Magnetic Black and Glacier White. They’re traditional names, sure, but they’re probably better described as Darth Vader Black and Stormtrooper White for this particular exercise. Outside of the body finishes, the package also includes signature LED headlights, a new black grille and lower finisher, black rear door finisher, roof rails, and door handles. Some signature Star Wars motifs are also included, most notably the logo decals of the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire on the D-pillar, Rogue One badging on the front doors, and a Star Wars logo clear rear bumper protector.

Move inside and the modifications become a little heavier on the Star Wars side. The illuminated kick plates, for instance, now come with the Star Wars logo while the same Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire logos found on the D-pillar can also be seen in the cupholder inserts and the interior accent lighting. These appointments match well with the charcoal color of the interior, further enhancing the Star Wars-inspired look of the Rogue.

The upgrades end there as far as the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition package is concerned. But since this model also comes with the Sun and Sound Touring package, it’s best to also mention the inclusion of the panoramic moonroof and the Bose audio system that the package features. Outside of these packages, the heavily inspired Star Wars Rogue SUV also receives – as standard, of course – a 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, to go with Nissan’s very own next-generation Xtronic transmission with Sport and Eco Mode switches and a handful of technological features like Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Start, and a Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System, among others.

The Star Wars treatment on the Rogue isn’t as comprehensive as you’d think, but it’s still a lot better than what Nissan and Star Wars did with the Juke back in 2013. That campaign wasn’t even centered on a special edition, Star Wars-inspired Juke. It was mostly for the crossover’s 15RX Personalized Package, and the contributions of Star Wars to that whole campaign were the Stormtroopers that milled around the Juke in a handful of promotional ads.

By contrast, the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition gets plenty of Star Wars-inspired upgrades. Heck, it even comes with an actual full-sized Death Trooper helmet as a nice piece of memorabilia. You can’t wear it as an actual helmet when you’re driving the Rogue, but it sure makes for a great display piece right next to your full-sized Darth Vader statue, that is if you have one of those beauties too.

So that’s the Nissan Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition. As I’ve mentioned before, only 5,400 units will be made available – 5,000 in the U.S. and 400 in Canada – with the package costing an extra premium of $1,990 on top of the cost of the Rogue SV, which itself costs $24,780.
