Cutely named the Adam, Opel's->ke65 resident compact hatch->ke304 actually looks pretty sweet for such a little car. It won't break any speed records, but for what it represents, there's something about the Adam that speaks to the younger generation.

It's hip. It's fresh. And at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show->ke235, it's going to be reintroduced via a pair of special edition->ke2041 models called the Black Link and the White Link.

The pair of special edition Adams make up a pretty strong Opel contingent in Frankfurt in a week's time. There aren't a lot of extensive changes done to the car -- no performance mods, as far as we can tell -- but for what the Blank Link and the White Link will offer customers, these two models will have plenty of people buzzing once the covers are officially pulled and we see them front and center at Frankfurt.

Exterior

If you’re looking for something overly drastic as far as the Adam’s appearance is concerned, you won’t find it with either the Blank Link Adam or the White Link Adam. Instead, Opel went with a choice of two exterior colors to justify their respective names: “I’ll Be Black” or “Saturday Night Fever”.

The fancy names for the colors notwithstanding, the two special edition Adams also come with accentuated contrasts to the rest of the body, including brushed, aluminum-look colored side mirror housings, tinted rear windows, a set of 18-inch wheels with a Twister design and matching wheel clips. The standard roof spoiler that comes with the Adam also carries the same lacquered color of the body, providing some sick consistency that only adds to the overall appeal of both special edition Adam models.

Interior

Just like the exterior, the interior of the Black Link and White Link special Adams isn’t too different from the standard Adam as far as configuration is concerned. But style is another thing, and both Adams have it in buckets.

For the Black Link Adam, Opel dressed it up with OCIO Black Morrocana seat cushions to match the black trim on the center console and instrument panel while also serving as the perfect complement to the Sky Cool Grey shade on the door trims, glove box, leather gear knob and handbrake handle.

Meanwhile, the White Link version also received its own fancy dress up in OCIO White Morrocana on the instrument panel and center console. The setup for the White Link’s interior looks really fresh.

Performance

Opel hasn't announced what engine trim will be available with the Black Link and White Link Editions, but for the purposes of covering all engine options for the Adam, a choice of three engines are offered. Initially, the new Opel Adam will be offered with a choice of three efficient gasoline engines: a 70-horsepower, 1.2 liter engine; an 87-horsepower, 1.4-liter engine; and a top-grade 100-horsepower, 1.4 liter engine. All three engines come with an ecoFLEX technology pack, including fuel-saving Start/Stop technology.

Arguably the biggest additions to the Black Link and White Link Special Edition Adams are the IntelliLink infotainment system and Siri Eyes Free system. Both will now come as standard features and on their own, will offer plenty of new features to the Adam.

The former features a 7-inch color touchscreen that also comes with the Tune-in app for global radio reception, the navigation app BringGo and Stitcher, an app for receiving internet radio podcasts from around the world. it's also compatible with Android software-operated devices, which means that you don't need to have an iPhone to take full advantage of the features of the system.

Unfortunately, you're going to need an iPhone to use the other new standard feature: Siri Eyes Free.

Here's list of available functions with voice command over Siri Eyes Free:

-Telephone calls to saved contacts

-Play songs in the iTunes Library and switch between different music sources such as radio and iPod

-Listen to, write and send an iMessage or text message to a telephone number or saved contact

-Access calendar and add appointments

-Siri Eyes Free also provides answers to questions about sports results or the dates of national holidays, for example. To minimize distraction from road traffic and increase safety, the iPhone screen remains dark.

Pricing

Only 2,000 models of the Black Link and White Link Special Edition Adams will be made available, which means that it should fly off dealership floors as soon as they're made available. Pricing hasn't been announced but our expectation is for these models but we'll likely learn that in Frankfurt.

Competition

2014 Fiat 500 Cattiva

One of the Opel Adam's key competitors also doesn't lack in its share of special edition models: the Fiat 500. Speaking of special edition 500s, Fiat actually just unveiled one recently, calling it the 500 Cattiva.

Stylistically captivating just like the Black Link Adams, the Fiat 500 Cattiva features a more aggressive styling approach that comes with exclusive blacked-out headlights, taillights and parking light bezels. There is also a unique Gloss Nero roof to add a little contrast and a set of 16-inch Hyper Nero-painted aluminum wheels with all-season performance tires.

The interior also benefits from some nice upgrades, highlighted by a Nero/Grigio (black/gray) cloth sport seats with Argento (silver) accent stitching to give it a custom look.

Conclusion

We've already expressed our admiration for the Opel Adam as a car whose stature doesn't do justice to the kind of appeal it has, especially to younger customers. It already looks like a cool compact hatch in standard guise, but once you add all the new features from the Black Link and White Link lines, then you turn an already attractive looking compact hatch into something that will no doubt turn a lot of heads.
