If you think back to the Geneva Motor Show->ke228 last march, you’ll remember a 6x6 Defender built by Kahn Design and branded as the Flying Huntsman. The truck->ke242 itself, in a single cab configuration, was built off of the Flying Huntsman 105 Longnose Defender – called the Longnose because it front end had to be lengthened by 15.7 inches to accommodate the 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 sourced from none other than GM.->ke1024

That Flying Huntsman 110 WB 6x6 Concept featured a third axle that stretched the rear out by another 31.5 inches. Being so stretched out, the 110 6x6 looked a little awkward, but it really wasn’t that bad. Nevertheless, Kahn Design->ke1726 figured there was room for yet another Flying Huntsman in its stable, and has now created the 110 6x6 Defender Double Cab Pickup. That’s right, now that same 110 can be had with four doors up front. We first saw it at the LRO show in November, and will be produced at the rate of 20 per year.

The 110 WB 6x6 Defender Double Cab will be offered with a manual or automatic transmission, as well as a number of different engines. Price points vary depending on configuration, but the base model starts out at £120,000, or roughly $180,000, and features a 2.2-liter diesel and six-speed manual transmission. It should be noted the £120,000 price tag is quite a bit cheaper than the single cab 6x6 we saw earlier this year. Now that all of that is out in the open, let’s take a deeper look and see if this Flying Huntsman lives up to what we expect from Kahn Design.

Pros
Cons

Exterior

Obviously, the exterior is on par with the single cab 6x6 that we saw earlier in the year. Basically, it looks like an armored vehicle with thin glass. The front grille, bumper, and even the headlight surrounds all appear to be made out of metal. A skid plate below the bumper serves to protect the underside. All lights are round in shape, including the turn signals and running lights on the bumper. To the side, the door hinges and body panel mounting bolts are all visible, going to show that this truck is more about purpose than looking pretty.

To the rear, the bed is relatively short with roll bars installed. A spare tire partially covers the main rear window, while corner windows wrap around from the rear to the side. This truck isn't likely to find itself carrying more cargo than a pair of golf bags, but its functional bed offers a decent amount of space. The rear got the same circular light treatment as the rear.

Interior

The interior gives the world a best-of-both-worlds type of mood. The entire interior appears to be wrapped in red, hand-stitched leather – including the dash board and roof liner. While there are also rear seats – that look amazingly spacious I might add – the rear is no different than the front. All of the seats also feature British Tweed inserts to go with the hand-stitched leather. The steering wheel looks to be wrapped in black leather, while the steering column and some parts of the dash look to be made out of a black fiberglass. The floors look to be carpeted in black, giving the interior a black and red color scheme.

I have to say that it seems really odd to see such an aggressive body outside, with so much luxury on the inside. On the exterior, no car was shown to concealment of fasteners or hinges, but on the inside you have complete elegance. Like I said, it’s the best of both worlds.

Drivetrain

We don’t know a lot about drivetrain options for the 6x6 Double Cab yet, but we do know that one option is the aforementioned 2.2-liter Diesel engine offered in the base model. Aside from the six-speed manual offered in that trim level, a four-speed auto and five-speed auto will also be up for the taking. So far Kahn design as said that the truck will be available in left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, and will have a “range of engine options.” It is likely that the range-topping trim level will receive the GM-sourced 6.2-liter, LS3 V-8 that Kahn has used in the past. Given the wide range of available transmissions, I would expect to see at least a V-6 gasoline and diesel engine, and maybe even a V-8 diesel. We’ll update this section when further details about the drivetrain emerge.

Conclusion

I’ve never really been a fan of trucks like this, but if I actually had a purpose for it, I would be more inclined to like it. It certainly looks beastly on the outside and comfortable on the inside, but from the outside, it makes me think of something revolutionary fighters would use in war torn countries. That said, the luxury of the interior or the price point doesn’t make that much sense to me. The truck itself in its current configuration comes off as more of a status symbol to me than a functional truck. The exterior can clearly take its fair share of bumps and bruises, but you’re not going to do that much dirty work in a truck that luxurious on the inside – or with a price point so high. All of that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a cool truck, it’s just not something that I would be that interested in owning. What about you? Let us know in the comments below.
