Rezvani has come out of its lab with a new version of the Tank SUV, called the Tank X. The body of the Tank X remains the same, but underneath the imposing facade lies an engine option in the form of a 6.2-liter, supercharged, V-8 engine that's been tuned to produce 707 horsepower and 710 pound-feet of torque. The Tank X starts at $259,000, though given Rezvani’s massive options list, that price tag could just as well say “your mileage may vary.”

Exterior

It’s hard, maybe even impossible, to miss the Rezvani Tank X. Functionally, the Tank X features the same rugged body-on-steel frame, albeit with a more sports-oriented suspension.

Up front, the Tank X features the same full-width bumper with LED lights as the “standard” Tank. The X-shaped grille is as prominent as it’s ever been. The narrow headlights still exude that grumpy look, emphasized, in part, by the muscular fenders, massive tires, and bulging doors. If there is one element to the Tank X that traces its roots to the Wrangler, it’s the windshield. You’d be hard pressed to recognize it, though, because the integrated LED light bar mounted on top of it is going to steal your attention.

Over at the back, the Tank X still features the same sloping roofline and scalloped body panels as the Tank. The LED taillights remain, too, while the glass lift-up gate destroys any thought of the Tank X being a conventional-looking SUV.

Not surprisingly, the Tank X gets some functional goodies, too. Rezvani’s Off-Road Extreme Package is standard on the Tank X. That means that the SUV adds a six-inch lift and a Dynatrac ProRock XD60/80 axle set with air lockers and an air compressor. Dynatrac is also responsible for the ProGrip front and rear brakes, which are hiding behind the gargantuan 37 x 13.5-inch tires. Fox 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks complete the exterior setup of the fearsome Tank X.

Likewise, the Convenience Package is also available as an option in the event that you find trouble getting in and out of the SUV. Automatic side steps can open and close to provide easier access to the interior.

Interior

It’s surprisingly subdued, even if there’s still enough premium leather to go around, thanks to the hand-stitched red Leather Package that wraps the seats. The headliner is in suede in the event you’re looking for a non-leather touch to the cabin. On the tech side, the Tank X comes with a 7.9-inch central infotainment screen that provides access to a number of apps, a lot of which are useful for the Tank X’s off-roading jaunts. There’s also a heads-up display unit that allows you to find all the driving information you need without having to take your eyes off the road.

One final thing you'll notice about the Rezvani Tank X's interior: its configuration is taken straight out of the Jeep Wrangler, which isn't a shock considering that the Wrangler does act as the base of all this madness.

Powertrain

This is where the Rezvani Tank X separates itself from past versions of the Tank that Rezvani has released in the past. Whereas the “standard” version of the goliath SUV is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine that produces 500 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, the Tank X ditches that engine in favor of a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that a lot of you are familiar with, specifically because this engine belongs to one of the raunchiest muscle cars in the world today: the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Yes, folks. That’s more power and torque available to the Tank X than any production SUV in the world, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk SRT, the only other SUV in the world that uses the supercharged V-8 Hellcat engine.

Rezvani didn’t say how the supercharged V-8 engine affects the SUV’s performance times, but let’s not kid ourselves here. The Rezvani is as concerned about the Tank X’s acceleration time as LeBron James is of his job security with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Tank X is built to conquer the off-road, not the drag strip.

Conclusion

The Rezvani Tank X is what it is. It’s not going to apologize for what it’s not. Take it or leave it. Fortunately, more people are “taking” than “leaving” because the Tank X is built like a mountain with four wheels attached to it. As weird as it sounds, that profile appeals to more people than you think. Given the SUV boom, there are plenty of choices as far as traditional SUVs are concerned. There are more than enough performance and luxury SUVs to go around, either. But an SUV like the Rezvani Tank X? That's something else entirely different.

Without knowing how it rides, the Tank X is a tremendous piece of work from a company that’s best known for its insane supercars. It’s nice to see that Rezvani can pivot when called upon, and the product it has with the Tank X is something to behold, even if you’re too scared to get inside it.
