French Auto Group PSA has announced that it will be electrifying all the models launched from 2019 onward. All cars will either be fully-electric or hybrid. This applies to all the brands under the PSA Group, including Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall, and Opel. PSA is one of the first automakers to announce the electrification process across its entire group range. The first one to do it was Volvo.

That’s a Long List Already

Within the next two years, PSA plans to launch 15 new electrified vehicles. Out of these 15, eight will be plug-in hybrids, which include the Peugeot 508, 508 SW, Citroën C5 Aircorss, Vauxhall Grandland X, Peugeot 3008, Open Grandland X, and the upcoming DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4.

Every new model launched from next year will be available with internal combustion engines paired with plug-in hybrid technology or all-electric drivetrains. The PHEVs will produce CO2 emission of less than 49g/km.

Platform Sharing Across Brands

This would be possible because PSA will keep just two platforms for all the new models, the CMP (Common Modular Platform), and the EMP2 (Efficient Model Platform). PSA says these underpinnings will be able to integrate “any of the powertrains of its line-up, internal combustion, electric, or hybrid." While CMP covers the entry-level part of PSA’s lineup, EMP2 underpins compact and larger models including sedans, coupes, LAVs (Leisure Activity Vehicles), SUVs, and LCVs.

By 2025, PSA targets a 100-percent electrified lineup for its Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, and Vauxhall brands. Going at this pace, we feel they will be able to achieve this target. What are your thoughts on this? Share them in the comments section below.
