Toyota->ke88 will be showing up to the SEMA Show with a very special Tacoma->ke1042 pick-up truck called the X-Runner "Ready to Race" (RTR). This new model is powered by a modified version of Tundra's mighty 5.7-liter V-8. Thanks to a new supercharger and an intake kit, the engine now delivers an impressive 504 HP and 550 lb-ft of torque.

The Tacoma X-Runner RTR personifies ingenuity to the highest level by the Japanese auto giant. Of all the parts used in the special edition pick-up truck, the only two that don’t belong to Toyota are the traction bars and drive-line shaft.

It’s the ultimate drag strip pick-up truck that not only looks intimidating, but also has the performance capabilities to back up that imposing presence.

Updated 10/19/2010: Toyota has unveiled today the official details on the new Tacoma X-Runner RTR. Also check out the gallery to see new images of the customized pick-up.

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR

For the exterior, Toyota made sure that the exterior body panels of the Tacoma X-Runner remained untouched. Instead, the company designated Five Axis to paint the truck with a silver and red paint scheme that was inspired by their race cars of yesteryear, including the XR7-G that was driven by Dan Gurney Cougar back in the 60’s. Little body modification was also done on the X-Runner RTR with the only exception being the relocation of the exhaust outlet from behind the passenger-side rear wheel to underneath the cab to help maximize rear-suspension compression.

Other changes include a painted a number ‘95’ on all of its doors to signify the Tacoma’s upgraded power plant and a painted number ‘504’ on the truck’s hood as an ode to the SAE verified horsepower that it comes with. Other items that can be found on the Tacoma include a TRD Supercharger graphic on the hood featuring a tornado, signifying the forced induction. There’s also the X-Runner logo adorned on the side rocker panels.

Over at the interior, Toyota stripped down the Tacoma of all non-essential equipment in order to make the truck’s weight lighter. All the items that were thrown out on the bend includes the audio head unit, speakers, air conditioner, power windows, front fog lamps, windshield water bottle, and rear seats.

All that remains are the front seats, which have been covered with a classic Toyota fabric trim from back in the 80’s. To further emphasize its racing nature, the Tacoma RTR was given a custom TRD steering wheel, a Tundra stock accelerator and brake pedals, a stock Tundra gated shifter with sport shift mode, and a TRD designed removable roll bar.

PERFORMANCE

The Toyota Tacoma X-Runner RTR achieves its performance credentials by dropping in a completely stock, current-generation Tundra 5.7-liter V8 engine into the unmodified engine bay along with a six-speed automatic transmission. A Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Supercharger Kit was added, bringing the SAE certified power stats to 504 horsepower and 550 lb.-ft. of torque. The truck runs on premium gas instead of race fuel.

PRICING

No word on the pricing yet, but we can at least use the price tag for the 2011 Tacoma as a basis on what to expect. The base tag for the 2011 Tacoma will range from $16,365 for the Regular Cab 4x2 to $27,525 for the Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 long bed version. Expect something a little more expensive than that.

COMPETITION

Pitting the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner RTR against standard versions of its kind is pretty unfair considering the added power it comes with. So really, the competition for this bad boy lies out on the drag strip where other modified trucks of its kind ply their craft.
