In 2014, Volvo->ke188 launched the second-generation XC90, a vehicle that showcased the company's new styling language and its new range of fuel-efficient, four-cylinder engines. The Swedish overhaul continued in 2015 and 2016 with the introduction of the S90 and V90, which act as Volvo's range-topping sedan->ke142 and wagon,->ke143 respectively. In the meantime, the rest of Volvo's lineup has either remained unchanged or received mild facelifts. This will change in the next few years when all its vehicles will adopt the new design and technology, but until that happens, the Swedish brand is trying to improve sales by building various special-edition models. The latest nameplate to receive such treatment is the V60,->ke3667 which will be sold with an "Edition" badge in Europe starting 2016.

Just like any special-edition->ke2041 out there, the V60 Edition received a few extra features inside and out, which should add "an additional splash of dynamism" to the wagon. Customers will get to pick between new colors and wheels, and enjoy a better equipped vehicle with several options now offered as standard equipment.

There's no word whether an Edition package is planned for the V60 Cross Country or not. Should that happen, the update will find its way into U.S. dealerships as well. Until that happens, let's have a closer look at the wagon version below.

What makes the Volvo V60 Edition special

On the outside, the V60 Edition gets "several" new colors, including the Mussel Blue and Luminous Sand options that Volvo launched with the XC90. The same hues are also available with the S90 sedan and the V90, the brand's range-topping wagon. In addition to the new paints, the V60 also gets two new wheel designs. Customers will get to pick between the diamond-cut, 17-inch "Rodinia" and the 18-inch "Tucan" rollers. While the body panels will remain unchanged, the Edition model will feature gloss-black inserts in the front and rear bumpers, as well as horizontal chrome bars in the front grille, as seen on recent new or facelifted Volvo cars. Finally, it will get integrated tailpipes and retractable side mirrors as standard.

The interior gets more new features, starting with a set of sport seats wrapped in Off-Black or Soft Beige leather. The headliner is finished in black on the V60 Edition, while the steering wheel, which can now be ordered with built-in heating, gets contrast stitching for a more upscale appearance. This special-edition model is fitted with Milled Aluminum trim as standard, but customers can buy it with Piano Black trim for an extra fee.

Nothing changes under the hood. Like the standard model, the V60 Edition can be had, depending on the market, with various gasoline and diesel engines. The gas range begins with the T3, available as a 1.5- or 2.0-liter four-pot, both with 150 horsepower. More oomph comes from the T5 powerplants, rated at either 242 or 298 horses. Moving over to diesels, there's the D2 with 118 horsepower, the D3 with 148 horsepower, and the D4 with 187 horsepower. All three are 2.0-liter, four-cylinder units. A D6 hybrid is also available, pairing a 217-horsepower, 2.4-liter, inline-five diesel with a 68-horsepower electric motor.

Pricing for the V6 Edition is not yet available, but it's safe to assume that it will be a bit more expensive than the standard model. The regular V60 retails from £22,455 (about $32,520) in the U.K. Since the V60 isn't available in the U.S., the V60 Edition won't be offered here. Unless Volvo launches a similar package for the V60 Cross Country, that is.

Volvo V60

The V60 was launched in 2010 for the 2011 model year. It is based on the second-generation S60 sedan. The V60 was originally sold with with inline-five and inline-six engines as well, but most of those units were dropped in favor of newer and more fuel efficient four-bangers. The V60 received its first facelift for the 2014 model year, when Volvo decided to sell it outside Europe as well. Several new versions were launched since then, including the crossover-like Cross Country, the performance-oriented Polestar, a plug-in hybrid, and the special-edition Ocean Race. A brand-new Volvo V60 will probably arrive sometime in 2017.
