Kawasaki->ke299 announces the voluntary recall->ke5597 on a handful of its off-road->ke450 products for a couple of different reasons. Both of these recalls expose a chink in the anti-terrain armor on almost 59,000 units sold in North America. First up we have approximately 28,000 side-by-side units sold between July 2014 and June 2016 from the 2015 through 2017 YM Mule->ke4162 Pro-FX/FXT and the Mule Pro-DX/DXT families. This bundle of trouble is closely followed by something around 30,094 Teryx->ke2731 and Teryx4 from a spread of years, specifically; 2012-13 Teryx4 750 4x4 units with four seats as well as the two- and four-seat variants of the 2014 through 2016 Teryx 800 4x4 range that were sold between November 2011 and November 2015.

As it turns out, the front passenger-compartment floor covers might be insufficient to prevent penetration by foreign objects, and indeed, there have been almost a dozen documented injuries because of this weakness. In order to get out ahead of the problem, Kawi -- in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission -- launched a voluntary recall campaign that will see this weak area shored up with floorboard guards to better protect the front-seat occupants from protruding branches, etc.
If you think this recall may apply to a vehicle you own, you may contact Kawasaki customer service directly at 866-802-9381 from 8AM to 5PM Pacific Monday through Friday. Do yourself a favor and have your VIN handy so the agent can quickly see if you are on the list or not.
