Started as an advertising art director in Los Angeles when he was 19, Daryl Villanueva attained massive valuable skill sets, and a decade later, in 2011, he got this idea of starting a motorcycle company in China before he moved to Vietnam. He noticed that motorcycles had the same design, tanks, seats, and everything; and he wanted to change that very notion and create some exquisite looking ‘products’ that can gouge your eye out and scratch your brain to believe that it is indeed a motorcycle.

Taking the red pill, he started Bandit 9 and took stuff out of the motorcycle graveyard and started building one product after the other. Easily mistakable to some sci-fi Terminator blockbuster prop, this cannon gun looking steel is one of the most challenging builds of Daryl’s. It’s called as the “L Concept”.

Using all his experience and skill sets, Daryl turned a 1967 Honda Super Sports 125cc motorcycle into a 22nd-century motorcycle that looks unlike anything that could possibly come out even during that period of time.

These 125cc motorcycles are commonly found on the streets of Vietnam and hence procuring one was not a task for Daryl but making his thoughts visible was a daunting one. The L.Concept is a work of art that is housed in a rather blasphemed L frame, which he also made use of on all his recent creations. The clean and pure image is due to its extremely shiny steel body. ‘Body’ is a very naïve term here folks.

What picks your eye apart from the overly polished steel and chrome, of course, is the jet engine hanging under the long squarish bar. Or the USS Enterprise reactor if you please. In fact, it is a custom engine cover on the 125cc engine that has fins, air scoops, and everything to make this look fast even when it is at a standstill.

Out front, the custom headlight unit carries one single row of LED’s and a custom speedo. It is attached to what one could describe as metallic Star Wars Speeder antlers which are the custom L handlebars. The bespoke grips and levers are chiseled from billet aluminum, and the maneuver controls are just a couple of toggle switches and buttons that make you feel like you are piloting a speeder rather than a motorcycle.

You sit on custom skin leather teardrop saddle which is contoured into the very-oblong bar. How comfortable is it? Is a rhetorical question really. The minimal unibody extends slightly behind that thing called as a seat and ends with a clean looking angle having Pantheon grill slits that illuminate as rear taillight cluster. Eyes popping out already!

It looks like Daryl is also a fan of spoked wheels just like us. Thin profile tires thread on the 21” aluminum spoked wheels and to complete the package, the motorcycle ‘thing’ makes use of inverted forks along with twin-piston calipers clutching on steel discs at the front. At the rear, the custom swingarm gets flat dual shocks that are specially engineered to keep the rear of the L.Concept tidy.

Only 9 units of this eye-popper will be made and if I am not wrong, will all be sold by the time you read this line. Each will be priced at $10,950 which will be delivered to your doorstep. Bandit 9 already has its machines rolling in the streets in across the US, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Vietnam.
