Beemer->ke1398 back in '13, and its adventures have brought us two new versions to bolster the family up to a total of four distinct models. Adding to the base R nineT and the “Scrambler” models are the all-new for 2017 “Pure” and “Racer” models.

Continue reading for more on BMW's new R nineT Scramblers.

Pure

First up we have the “Pure” that, much like a good au jus, comes reduced down to its primal essence with nothing frivolous thrown into the mix. With everything you need to ride and nothing more, this definitely qualifies as a roadster->ke1418, and is sure to appeal to short-trippers and urban commuters alike.

To be fair, the original R nineT base model wasn't exactly overburdened with extra equipment, but the “Pure” takes it up (or down?) a notch, and comes off looking downright Spartan. Not sayin' it's a bad thing, just making a statement of fact.

Racer

Next we have my favorite of the two, the R nineT “Racer” that comes with a cafe'-tastic->ke3530 vibe thanks to the fixed bullet fairing up front and the tail-tidy fairing in back that makes a direct historical connection to the cafe' racers of old. Beemer went that far, but stopped short of adding an actual number plate that would make the “Racer” look right at home trackside.

Much like the rest of the range, this pair runs the 1,170 cc, flat-twin (boxer) engine that cranks out a thrilling 110 ponies, so it should appeal to folks who appreciate some get-up-and-go as well as folks with an eye for the classics. I'll be taking a more in-depth look at this pair once the INTERMOT show peters out and the smoke clears, so be sure to tune in for the rest of the story.
