Founded in 2008, Kalex Engineering is a German specialty engineering company that designs, manufactures and sells high-performance parts for motorcycles. But they are famous for their Moto2 class stunt where they provide chassis structures to the Moto2 teams. What began with one team, Kalex is now the preferred chassis manufacturer for most of the teams in the current Moto2 season.

Being the preferred chassis manufacturer, Kalex is the first amongst the other makers (KTM, Speed-up, Tech3, Suter, and NTS) to receive the brand new Triumph 765cc motor developed for Moto2. Kalex is undergoing the first full series of tests at the Bavarian city of Bobingen, Kalex’s headquarters.

And we have the first images, thanks to Speedweek.

Back in June last year, the British motorcycle manufacturer had announced their entry into the world of motorsports by replacing Honda as the engine manufacturer for Moto2 from the 2019 season.

Making use of the talented 765cc Triumph Street Triple engine, the folks at the racing department are putting all their resources into tuning this three-pot motor into a dedicated Moto2 worthy engine.

With multiple enhancements and developments underway, the engine has successfully being tested with the second track test at the Ciudad del Motor de Aragón by Julian Simon, 2009 125cc World Champion, Moto2 runner-up and experienced Moto2 test rider.

Now, this engine is for the very first time, seen on a proper Kalex Moto2 chassis that is developed specifically for this engine. This setup will eventually run the 2019 Moto2 season after a full blown 2018 testing programme.

The images you see here are of the first bench trials undergoing with the Kalex chassis and Triumph engine. The setup includes the right oil sump and a standard race ECU, which will then be tuned specifically for every rider in the next phase of testings. A race developed Akrapovic exhaust system is seen on the right side of the bike. (The Honda engine previously used had the systems run to the left.)

This setup will be used by 20 riders on the track when the 2019 season starts. Before that, Kalex will have the first track tests in Spain at the end of February.

Alexandre Baumgärtel, CEO of Kalex, in an interview with Speedweek.com, said “These are the first images of the motorcycle with the Triumph engine in the test bench. At the moment, everything works. We have mounted a standard motor, but with the right oil pan, in addition to a standard control unit,”

Kalex has, From Texas GP 2015 to Phillip Island GP 2017, has coveted 49 consecutive victories and won the Manufacturers' Championship in 2013 Moto2 season. In 2015, Kalex bikes took 9 out of the top 10 spots including the top 3 on the podium. Same for the 2016 season as well.
