Borderless CrossHelmet X1 was first initiated on the Kickstarter back in September 2017 and has since hit over 200 percent of its original $100,000 goal. The first prototype was then developed and showcased to the public at the SXSW 2017 for which it received a heap load of positiveness.

Back with its next prototype, the CrossHelmet X1 was put on stands at the CES Tech Show in Las Vegas. With cutting-edge features like the Heads-up-display, Sound-cancelling, GPS navigation, 360-degree camera, Bluetooth, hands-free calling, and music, it is going to be a game-changing piece of equipment that will make riding an all-new experience.

The CrossHelmet is designed and developed by Arata Oono, founder, and CEO of Borderless. He was also instrumental working on the Yamaha’s MT-09 development back in the days. The helmet is also designed by Kevin Tseng who talks about how the idea of creating the X1 was concocted “The discomfort of wearing a full-face helmet and the lack of major progress in the industry regarding IoT,”

The purpose of the X1’s design was to allow the rider not to get that crushing feeling when wearing one. For some, it isn’t a great experience. So Arata made sure the helmet felt more spacious on the inside by giving it a re-designed front that allows riders to breathe easily, feel being in better visual space and eliminate any claustrophobic sensation.

There is a bifocal heads-up display that projects the rear of the helmet via a camera embedded within the rear skull of the helmet. The HUD is positioned at the top of the helmet’s visor, making it similar to the rear-view mirror as seen in cars. Adding this to the wide-view visor, together they give the rider a 360-degree view of his surroundings.

This makes Borderless the first company to offer a helmet capable of providing a 360-degree view without any accessories or add-ons. The HUD also gives navigation directions, weather, phone coverage, etc. by tethering to the smartphone via Bluetooth. This also allows the helmet to display caller information and music preferences along with notifications on the HUD.

Another feature debuting with the X1 is the CrossSound Control system. It’s a noise-canceling technology that basically runs on the same principle of a noise-canceling headphone. It allows the rider to filter out “unnecessary” trivial sounds that can be unwanted distractions like the wind noise or the engine/exhaust noise.

The group talk feature allows multiple X1s’ to connect and help a group of riders be in connection with each other and also share their location. This feature is mainly targeted at riders who venture out on tours in a group. A safety LED mounted on both sides of the helmet increases the rider’s visibility to other road users.

All this can be yours for $1,599, and the X1 will start shipping soon. You can either get the white or black helmet, and they come with additional visors and jacket as accessories.
