Federal mediators are getting involved in the Harley-Davidson Inc. strike, according to a union leader.
The two sides are scheduled to meet Tuesday morning with representatives of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, said Tom Boger, a business representative for International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175.
The FMCS is a federal agency that helps resolve labor disputes.
The meeting was scheduled today, after a weekend in which there were no talks between the company and the union, Boger said.
“I think it’s a positive thing,” Boger said.
About 2,750 workers at Harley’s York County plant went on strike early Friday morning after rejecting a proposed three-year contract from the company.
Harley representatives could not immediately be reached today, but the company has said it would not have any comment beyond a press release issued Thursday.
