We’ve all been there. Have huge miles to cover through blistering hot weather and the humid air is not making things any better. Sweat is trickling down our neck, and that itchy scalp makes us wish we could rip it off our head. Feeling fresh arriving at the destination only means feeling liberated when the helmet comes off the head. Well, thanks to an American manufacturer Feher, not anymore.

Using what they call as the “Mr.Cool” technology, the ACH-1 is the world’s first self-contained air-conditioned helmet. Invented and designed by Steve Feher, it is a $ 599 DOT certifies helmet fitted with an integrated A/C unit at the rear of the construction. Instead of using heavy standalone battery packs, it connects to the bike’s battery unit.

Similar to technologies used in high-end automobile seats offered by Rolls-Royce, Lexus, GM, and various others, the Mr.Cool tech utilizes thermo-electric principle to distribute cool air freely throughout the entire full-face helmet evenly. With the patented Tubular Spacer Fabric and the comfort liner, the helmet provides constant overflow for constant cooling.

As the outside air temperature increases, the cooling effect also increases, thereby decreasing helmet condensation and cooling the head of the rider to provide a comfortable ride for longer durations. The system can create a temperature difference of up to 12-18 degrees inside the shell of the helmet.

The helmet comes with a battery harness and a coiled connector cable to harness the bike’s battery energy source making the helmet operate for as long as the rider rides in the hot conditions. Since the helmets operate according to the ambient temperature, you would not need a controller or an on/off switch.

Although this helmet is not entirely waterproof, Feher is safe to be used in a fairly bad weather condition. All this technology means heavier weight right? Wrong. This helmet weighs 3.2 lb, which is an average weight for a helmet you can find in the market, thanks to the fiber mat reinforced fiberglass composite it is made up of.

This DOT and ECE 22.05 certified ACH-1 can be bought online at the company’s website for $599, but Feher is celebrating the launch of their helmet by giving you a $50 discount. It will come in six different sizes with its own backpack and will be available in five different gloss and matte finishes. You can even purchase different visors from the store varying from clear, anti-fog and anti-scratch treated ones.
