Hollywood Electrics, Zero Motorcyces->ke3362, and rider Jeff Clark will be defending their electric production class title at the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb->ke1001.

It’s that time of the year again for the successful triumvirate as they seek to take home their third-straight title in one of the most eagerly anticipated class races in the Race to the Clouds on June 28, 2015. It’s especially important for Clark, who returns to the scene of his past two titles that he won while riding a 777 Zero FX bike.

This year, Hollywood Electrics has enlisted the help of two veteran riders - land speed record holder Brandon Nozaki Miller and Pikes Peak veteran Nathan Barker - to join Clark in his quest to give the team its third straight Electric Production class at Pikes Peak.

Clark will also try to improve on his record time of 11:59 around the course, which he set in 2014. He won’t get to do it on his trusty Zero FX bikes, but fortunately, Zero Motorcycles has prepared an entirely new electric motorcycle - a 2015 Zero SR - at the team’s disposal.

There are no assurances that the new bike would be able to replicate the success of its predecessor, but for the sake of the Clark, Miller, and Barker, Hollywood Electrics is hoping that the SR can live up to the enormous pressure of steering the team to a third straight Electric Production class title.

It promises to be a difficult task given the strength of the competition this year, but if the team comes in to the event with the same amount of passion and determination that it has displayed in the past two years, there’s no reason to believe that it can do it for a third straight year.

Why it matters

If you’re a two-time champion looking to win your third straight class championship in one of the most dangerous race courses in the world, you’re going to want to defend your title against any and all competitors that want to take your throne away.

That’s the kind of thinking I’m picturing Hollywood Electrics, Zero Motorcycles, and Jeff Clark are all having now that the 93rd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is drawing closer and closer.

The Hollywood Electrics team has owned the Electric motorcycles production class for the past two years, beating any and all comers along the way. As I’ve mentioned, Clark even holds the record for a production electric motorcycle around the Pikes Peak course, completing it with an incredible run around the 12.42- mile track in just 11 minutes and 59 seconds.

This year, the team, as well as all the other teams, is determined to set a new record lap time for an electric motorcycle. That’s where Zero Motorcycles comes into the picture. Whereas Clark won his two previous titles riding a Zero FX, he and his teammates, Brandon Miller and Nathan Barker, will be riding their own 2015 Zero SR models.

Now, it’s important to remember that the SR is a quick bike by any measure, even when compared to their internal combustion-powered counterparts. It’s capable of hitting 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and can reach a top speed in excess of 100 mph without even breaking a sweat. But the biggest thing about electric motorcycles in a race like Pikes Peak is that these machines can deliver top-quality performance at any altitude because they’re immune to the problems other motorcycles may have when the thin air messes up the fuel mixture in their engines.

That’s a big reason why this class has become a popular attraction at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
