Apart from BMW, the Bavarian motorcycle builder who succeeds to compete with Japanese motorcycles, another German manufacturer called Kalex is trying to conquer our hearts and it does it big time by introducing this supersport prototype, the AV1.

Weighing 155kg dry, the AV1 is very light and not because it fades when it comes to power but because the use of new materials allow it.

It features a 60-degree, 998cc V-twin engine from Rotax, with a Motec M800 engine management system. The engine producing 140 horsepower at 9500rpm, and 107 Nm of torque at 7750rpm can also be found in Aprilia RSV1000 so you can make a pretty good idea of the mind-blowing performance in the lightweight AV1. The advanced form of traction control software incorporated in the engine’s management system has the purpose of keeping the motorbike on the road or on the track for the moment.

Sports bikes have to be fast but still maintain a certain level of safety and rigidity concerning the frame. That is why the AV1 received a tubular steel trellis frame chassis which is light and stiff, allowing the bike to lean easily.

But sports bikes have to be aggressive two, am I right? In this case carbon fiber does the job and the bike exceeds its expectations while still maintaining the general look and feel of Japanese speed machines.
