The 40th edition of the infamous Dakar Rally is just a month away and almost 150 rally motorcycles will land in Peru, South America, to have a go on some of the most gruesome terrains stretching 5,500 miles in a span of 14 days.

While all teams and bikes have already begun their journey from home, team Monster Energy Honda may have faced a setback as one of their Honda CRF 450 Rally was stolen from Le Havre docs ahead of its scheduled shipment.

Reported on Paris-Normandie.fr, the motorcycle was stolen from a truck which was stationed in Quai Colbert, the center of Le Havre’s docks area where many other Dakar machines were also being held. The thieves broke open the locks on the truck and forced their way in to end up taking the bike as well as three team helmets.

What is the total cost of the stolen goods? Around €300,000 ($355,000) says Paris-Normandie.fr. A police complaint has been lodged and an inquiry is underway as we speak.

All of this hasn’t seen to deter the focus of the team since their recent update on the Dakar page reads: “All successfully aboard! Destination: Lima, Peru”. The ship containing all their equipment and machines have already left the Le Havre port and is destined to arrive at the port of Lima, Peru, in a month’s time.

There is no mention of the theft in the report though. Of course, Honda has managed to replace the stolen bike with another similar spec machine and is already en-route Dakar.

The Honda CRF450 RALLY is a machine that has been intensely developed since 2013 and has already won multiple stages in the four years it has been running. Regular updates see the bike top-spec every year and have proven effective under the severe Dakar conditions.
