Why We Ride Films, the producers behind the critically-acclaimed documentary, “Why We Ride”, is inviting everyone to watch the documentary for free over the next seven days to help spur crowd support and funding for its next feature documentary, “I Am Sturgis.”

The offer to watch Why We Ride is available on the I Am Sturgis Kickstarter page, providing viewers an easy way to enjoy the documentary while also pledging financial support to help produce the new documentary.

Offering Why We Ride for free is a great way to attract viewers to the real purpose of the Kickstarter campaign, which is to help fund the company’s new film project. The offer to watch the documentary is really a means to an end, but you can’t blame the producers for doing it. The group hopes to raise $350,000 for the production budget of the new documentary, but with a little under three weeks left before the producers’ self-imposed target date, donations on the Kickstarter page have only reached $36,79 as of May 14, 2015. That’s a little over 10 percent of what producers are hoping to get.

Time’s of the essence to finish the documentary before the 75th Anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins in the first week of August 2015. The producers needed something, anything, to get more people to go to its I Am Sturgis Kickstarter page. Offering a free-viewing of its award-winning Why We Ride documentary is a great way to entice more people to visit the page and hopefully, contribute as little as $5 to the cause.

Five bucks really isn’t much for a lot of people so if you happen to watch the Why We Ride documentary, do the producers a solid and help out their cause. Your contributions, no matter how small they be, could go a long way in helping Why We Ride Films finish the I Am Sturgis documentary in time for the 75th anniversary of the motorcycle rally in South Dakota on August 2015.

Why it matters

I’ve seen the Why We Ride documentary a couple of times and I’ll be the first to bat for the great job producer James Walker and his colleagues did in that film. That’s why I’m encouraging everybody who reads this to spend some time watching the documentary and more importantly, donate something to the cause so that Walker and company proceed with the development of I Am Sturgis.

Once you’ve seen the documentary (for free!) and donated to help fund the new documentary, you can also share the link to the Kickstarter page so that other people, even those with only a passing interest in motorcycles, can watch it. Hopefully, they’ll donate, too, but that really isn’t something you can impose on people, right?

Here’s the thing, though. I completely agree with Walker’s goal of turning these documentaries into video statements of the power and passion of the motorcycle industry in the US. This isn’t just about buying and riding bikes. It’s about the spirit of camaraderie that exudes from like-minded people who share a similar passion. There’s something about that interaction that’s as pure and genuine as any relationship you’ll have with other people.

That’s the message Why We Ride Films hopes to imbibe with the creation of the I Am Sturgis documentary. The company wants to tie up the history of the most famous motorcycle rally in the world to the people that made it historical in the first place, whose love for bikes and gatherings have inspired future generations of doing the same.

That’s something we all want to see continue and prosper for years and generations to come. You can do your part to continue that by donating to help get the I Am Sturgis documentary get off the ground in time for this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
