Tesla crossed the line in 9.3 seconds at 152 mph. Though both are highly impressive, the Lucid Air doesn’t only outperform in speed.

The Lucid Air outperforms the Tesla Model S in available options for maximum range on a single charge. Lucid offers up to 516 miles, nearly 30-percent more than Tesla’s highest range of 405 miles. Lucid’s lowest option is also greater than Tesla’s lowest option: 410 miles to Tesla's 396 miles. These statistics make the Lucid Air seem more practical for a day when no charging station may be needed. One of the biggest non-starters for potential EV owners is the fear of being stranded without having gasoline as an option for long commutes.

Lucid also offers more interior space for its occupants. The Air comes with an automotive package called Lucid Space Concept, which maximizes available space for the comfort of passengers and luggage. By use of a miniaturized EV drivetrain and a compact 113kWh battery back, much excess space is left available. 739 liters total out as the best in class for luggage space, which includes the largest available “frunk” at 280 liters. In aiming for practicality that exceeds all competition, the Lucid Air is turning space into a recognizable luxury.

Higher trim Lucid Air models come standard with a glass canopy that offers a panoramic view of the sky. In addition to outstanding party tricks, one could say that the Air is (in theory) safer than the Model S. However, let's not encourage the Lucid to get too cocky. We have yet to see statistics on what happens when these cars find themselves in collisions.

The Model S is the car that has made conservative motorists take a leap of faith, when available EVs were ugly and impractical. It is the car that has beaten the world’s fastest gas-powered car in a quarter-mile race. It is the car that has helped its company rake in over $400 billion. The Lucid Air will have to bring more than just impressive statistics. The Tesla Model S is the pinnacle of cars of tomorrow.
