The Lexus LFA was proof the brand known for making smooth and comfortable commuter vehicles could also produce a mind-melting supercar. The original LFA was stuff of legends. Its V-10 engine was a symphony of sounds that would make the hairs stand on the back of anyone's neck. The LFA was so over-engineered that Toyota actually lost money in every singe one sold. If that's not dedication to the spirit of making an unbelievable sports car, then what is? Reportedly, Lexus is now developing a successor to its supercar, and one that will be powered by an electric drivetrain with the intention of giving its ICE characteristics.

The electric successor of the LFA, dubbed the Lexus Electrified Sport for now, will reportedly be fitted with a manual gearbox according to Motor1, which Chief Branding Officer Koji Sato had previously outlined as a possibility. Lexus is also envisioning a low two-second 0-60 mph time and an electric battery range exceeding 430 miles. If these aspirations are met, the Lexus Electrified Sport will certainly raise the bar for Lexus, its luxury sport car rivals and the EV industry as a whole.

Much Is Still To Be Revealed

President Akio Toyoda of Toyota Motors announced last year that Lexus will go fully electric by 2035. It's safe to say that automotive enthusiasts are happy to hear that they still have a focus on fun to drive vehicles, even if the price tag seems a bit farfetched. Though not many specific details are not yet available for the the LFA's successor (not even a projected release date), the fact that discussion around this vehicle have been ongoing is a good sign. Though the Electrified Sport is still in the concept phase, it may be safe to assume that research and development is underway - after all, the concept vehicle is displayed on the official Lexus website.

Specs and numbers are of course important and impossible to ignore when such an anticipated vehicle is underway. Add this to the fact that according to Lexus it is the "spiritual successor" of the legendary Lexus LFA, and it goes without saying that the Electrified Sport has very big shoes to fill. But the simple fact that this supercar has the potential to come with a manual transmission is something to be praised, even if no EVs have been able to replicate the manual found in ICE cars. Though EVs may seemingly kill off manuals, we're happy to hear there are those hoping to keep them alive for the next iteration of sports cars.
