Vice President and Brand Officer of Acura, Jon Ikeda, stated in an interview with Nikkei Asia that a future return of the NSX as an all-electric model is very likely. The paper asked him about his prospects of a new flagship sports car, and Ikeda answered “I would bet on it” adding that “it's going to be all-electric”. He went on to explain that this topic was not for him to decide, so it is very likely that Honda President and CEO, Tashihiro Mibe, has the last word for a comeback of the Acura NSX. Nikkei Asia further referred to people familiar with Acura's agenda, stating that a new and all-electric generation of the NSX could be coming as soon as 2026 when parent company Honda introduces its newly developed e:Architecture.

Meanwhile, the production of the current Acura NSX is ending. In April, Acura unveiled the NSX Type S as a last edition of the 2nd generation model before the model gets discontinued later in 2022. The Type S makes 602 horsepower (449 kilowatts) and 492 pound-feet (667 Newton-meters) which is 21 horsepower and 36 pound-feet more than the base NSX. These final changes in power are also accompanied by improvements in performance added by elements borrowed from the Acura GT3 program. The Acura NSX Type S was limited to 350 units with 300 of them destined to come to the United States. As the “was” already indicated, the NSX Type S had a price of $169,500 and is already sold out.

For now, nothing is official about a new generation of the Acura NSX or whatever its successor might be. But since VP Jon Ikeda shared Acura's consideration of a new-generation NSX so soon after the presentation of the Type S, this at least suggests that the company is going to stick with the NSX name for another all-electric generation maybe even as soon as 2026. In the meantime, Acura and parent company Honda are quite busy with new electric models. In 2024, Honda unveils the new Prologue while Acura will launch the ZDX. Both will be all-electric and ride on the Ultium Platform designed by General Motors. Furthermore, it is already announced that the first Acura model on the Honda e:Architecture will go on sale in 2026. If this is the new generation NSX, however, we will just have to wait and see.
